11 Questions Every App State Freshman Ask Their First Week

1.) What Appalcart route do I take to get to Walmart?

You do not need call a beeper just to take you to your car or Walmart (real life situation that happened the other day). Instead, just hop on State Farm and get your car, or take the Red route.

2.) Where is Central? I'm starving and can't find it?

Sit yourself down because this is a tell-tale sign that you are a freshmen. The Appalachian website is clearly mistaken when they list Roess as the dining hall, it's actually Central.

3.) Why is no one wearing shoes?

This has to be against about a million health codes, but it really is the Appalachian way. Shoes are strictly optional.

4. ) Where is my class in Belk Hall? I don't think this room exists?

Trust me, your class does exist, but it's true location is hard to find. No one will every get the numbering of Belk.

5.) How many preachers can be on Sanford Mall at once?

This one speaks for itself. Just sit back and enjoy the show...

6.) If I get hit by the Appalcart, do I really get free tuition?

This really is a good and genuine question. I wouldn't suggest trying it, but those Appalcart drivers do get a little stircrazy being behind the wheel for so long.

7.) Why are people drinking outside of these trailers?

You will love the Trailer Park bars, you will respect the Trailer Park bars.

8.) Is the Freshmen 15 really a thing at App?

Yes. Your calves might get a little toned from walking up the hills, but having Chick-Fil-a everyday will eventually catch up with you.

9.) Why are there so many recycle bins on campus?

Because it's App. That's the only viable answer I can give. Just do your part and put recyclables where they belong?

10.) How does everyone have friends already?

I asked myself this 500 times as a Freshman. Why does everybody have their squad? Don't worry, your real friends won't come along until middle of your first semester!

11.) When will I get used to all of this?

The first week of college is a filled with a roller coaster of emotions. Just keep reminding yourself that you are not going through this alone.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
