11 Of The Best Parts Of Coming Home For Break
Panoramio

As college students across the country came home from college last week for Thanksgiving, there were many commonly held anticipations among them. These are just a few of the many things college students look forward to when coming home for break.

1. Family

No matter how much they may annoy you, coming home after being at school for so long and seeing your family provides a huge sense of comfort for college students. Being in your own house again may seem kind of weird at first, but brings you a lot of happiness.

2. Real Food

Don’t get me wrong, the dining hall at college isn't all that bad, but nothing beats having a nice home-cooked meal that wasn’t mass produced for the first time in months.

3. Pets

This just might be the best part of coming home. Seeing your pet again after being away from them for months is one of the best feelings.

4. Friends

Catching up with your hometown friends is another huge part of being on break. Finding out who is dating who and what you missed during your time apart will never get old.

5. Non-Communal Bathrooms

I can’t even begin to explain how great it is to not have to wear flip flops in the shower.

6. Sleeping in Your Own Bed

No matter how comfortable your 3 inch mattress topper is at college, there is nothing like coming home and sleeping in your own bed for the first time in months.

7. No Class

Being home means no 8 a.m.s, no lectures, and for the most part, no homework. Honestly can’t think of anything much better.

8. Visiting Your Favorite Restaurants

No matter how good the food around your campus is, there is nothing like coming home and visiting all of your favorite restaurants that you haven’t been able to go to in months.

9. Seeing What’s Changed

When you’ve been gone at school for awhile, change in your town is inevitable. Driving around and seeing the new stores or roads can be surprisingly fun.

10. Driving

Getting the freedom to drive again after not being able to for months is awesome. Nothing like taking your first drive around town after being away at school for months is a great feeling.

11. Treating Yourself

Being home gives you an excuse to go shopping, get a manicure, or get your hair done. What’s better than going back to school feeling completely refreshed?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
