2015 was filled with a ton of great movies. Some marked the end of series, and some marked the beginning of new ones. And while it was sad to see the films of 2015 come and go, you can rest easy in the knowledge that there are many more fantastic movies coming in 2016!
1. "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story"
"The Force Awakens" marked the beginning of a new "Star Wars" era with new movies being set to release within the next couple of years. "Rogue One" follows the story of a band of Rebel fighters coming together to try and steal the plans for the Death Star before it can be used to enforce the Emperor's power.
2. "Captain America: Civil War"
I am an absolute giant fan of Marvel movies, but I especially love the movies featuring Captain America and the Avengers. This new movie focuses on a division between two of the Avengers: Captain America and Iron Man. The division is created when the government wants to create a governing body to determine when the Avengers are needed. Steve Rogers (aka Captain America) wants to go with the unregulated side while Tony Stark supports the government insight.
3. "The Fifth Wave"
While the trailer looks like another dystopian universe, the movie itself looks unique in the fact that aliens are the main villain within the story. Five different waves hit the Earth, each devastating it in a different, specific way. The story is narrated by two characters and follows their experience through each wave as "the others" attempt to take over planet Earth.
4. "The BFG"
One of my absolute favorite books when I was younger was "The Big Friendly Giant" by Roald Dahl. While I don't know how they will take it from book to movie, I am looking forward to see how they do it. The story follows a little girl named Sophie who meets the Big Friendly Giant. The BFG is an outsider because unlike all the other mean giants, he refuses to eat children. Together, Sofie and the BFG work to take down the other giants in order to save the children of the world.
5. "Finding Dory"
While it has been quite a while, I don't think anyone can say that they haven't been patiently waiting for this movie. "Finding Dory" has been talked about for so many years, and now it is finally being released. The story follows our good friend Dory on her quest to find her mother and father. The movie has been long overdue, and it is my biggest hope that the movie is all that it is cracked up to be.
6. "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2"
"My Big Fat Greek Wedding" is an absolutely hilarious movie that everyone in the family can enjoy. The movie was released in 2002, and they are just now creating a sequel to the beloved comedy. The movie will feature the original main actors for Toula and Ian. The story features on Toula and Ian as well as another big Greek wedding.
7. "How to be Single"
The new comedy focuses on four adult women who have to learn how to be single in a world with everyone encouraging love. The movie features actresses such as Dakota Johnson and Rebel Wilson. Hopefully a funny movie, the trailer looks hilarious and I hope that the movie causes lots of laughs.
8. "Miracles from Heaven"
A movie on a miracle, the story describes how a young girl with a rare digestive disorder finds herself miraculously cured after being in an accident. Based on a novel, "Miracles from Heaven" looks to be another inspiring story that strikes hearts and shows how amazing the world is when dealing with a terrible disorder.
9. "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children"
I absolutely love this book series by Ransom Riggs, and when I heard it was being made into a movie, I was so excited. The movie follows the story of a boy named Jacob who works himself onto an island with his father. After exploring the island, he discovers a home of peculiar children. Jacob guides and helps the children to escape from evil creatures who are determined to destroy them.
10. "Deadpool"
Another new Marvel movie, "Deadpool" focuses on the story of a special forces operative, Wade, who goes to extensive lengths to try and cure his cancer. After undergoing experiments he is left with new powers and an unstable characteristic. The movie promises the characters dark humor and a story of a mission to hunt down the man who almost killed Wade.
11. "Zootopia"
I had to add a Disney movie into the mix and while I don't know how I feel about this movie yet, the trailer is quite comical. The characters of the movie are all mammals with distant characteristics in specific places. The main character, named Judy Hopps, aims to solve a case of a missing otter and in order to do so, she forms an alliance with a con artist. The trailer promises some laughs, and it looks like a cute Disney family film.
