We all love summer because of the trips to the beach, the days spent next to the pool, and all of the outdoor activities you accomplish with our buds. The issue with that though is that (especially where I live) it rains a solid 50 percent of the summer. Those days are perfect for locking yourself in your room with some snacks and watching this list of easy to watch, rainy day movies.
1. (500) Days of Summer
This is easily one of the best chick flicks out there since it was released in 2009. It's got jokes, a musical number, and just the amount of emo-ness that we all secretly long for in our movies.
2. 6 Years
This is an indie film that I watched on Netflix at the suggestion of a friend, it's clearly low budget with some sub-par acting. However, it's just real and it will make you question the stability of any relationship that you have, so be ready to lay in silence for a bit while you contemplate you existence afterward.
3. Pride and Prejudice
THE KEIRA KNIGHTLEY VERSION. It's a classic and you may not have enough energy to actually listen to what they're saying, but it's just pretty to look at. Plus it's funny to see President Snow and Joanna from The Hunger Games and Amy Dunne from Gone Girl on the same screen.
4. The Devil Wears Prada
I really don't need to explain anything because this movie has Meryl Streep and some of the best one-liners out there. That's all anyone needs.
5. 13 Going on 30
This movie has always been precious, mostly because we all are Jenna Rink on some level. I mean, who doesn't want to be thirty, flirty, and thriving?
6. Les Miserables
Easily one of my favorite recent musical adaptations because of the top notch cast that they put together to make this movie in 2012. Plus, all of the pretty, pretty revolutionaries.
7. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
A classic early 2000's movie with Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey at their romantic comedy prime, what more could you ask for? Just the love fern debacle is worth watching the entire movie.
8. Beautiful Girls
This is one of those movies that I rediscovered because my mom bought it on DVD years ago. It's another great cast with Rosie O'Donnell speaking every thought going through your head.
9. High Fidelity
I love this movie because it's basically made of the same two things I am: music and anger.
10. Water for Elephants
I mostly love this movie because I loved the book first. It's a total chick flick, plus it's complete with animals so it's pretty impossible to hate.
11. The Break-Up
Any Jennifer Aniston movie is great, but an angry, vengeful Jennifer Aniston is even better.
So you may wish you were at the pool today instead of held up in your house, but with any of these movies, you're sure to have a great summer day in. Plus, movies mean air conditioning, so that's a win all in itself.
