11 Things I Love About School Supplies

Because why wouldn't I have a ton of mechanical pencils and sharpies in my purse at all times?

11 Things I Love About School Supplies

Yes, I’m a bit of a school supply junkie. I love everything about places like Staples and Office Depot. If someone lets me loose in there with unlimited money, they wouldn’t see me for a good three hours. As a future educator, I feel it is part of my duty to explain my love for all things school supply. Notebooks, pencils, markers, white-out – you name it, I love it! There is just something so satisfying about buying a new batch of supplies every school year. So, here are the 11 things I love about school supplies!

1. ALL OF THE COLORS!

Every year, the same items come out. However, each year, these items come out in new colors. Last year, mint green and coral were HUGE! I can’t wait to see what comes out this August!

2. The feeling of being organized.

Just having things like labels and sticky notes makes me feel like I am a step closer to having my life organized. It probably won’t happen, but I will have all of the tools to get me there!

3. Being prepared.

So what if I have a twenty-pack of mechanical pencils?! I’m ready for whatever test I need to take at that point!

4. Being a nerd, but feeling cool.

There is nothing quite like finding that wonderful purple highlighter and breaking it out in the middle of class. I’ve had teachers ask me, “Is that really a purple highlighter?! Where did you get it?” And I reply, “Yes, it is, it was a gift.”

5. Two words: New. Notebooks.

A brand new spiral notebook is a wondrous thing! Blank pages, ready for whatever you want to write. But if you’re like me, you continue to use the ones you’ve already started to use because you don’t want to mess up the new ones.

6. SHARPIES!

To me, a brand new Sharpie marker is like a new toy to a kid. I want to write with it, draw with it and never let it out of my sight!

7. Novelty Tape Dispensers.

Yes, indeed, I have a red high heel tape dispenser! It’s cute and sassy like me, and is, hands-down, one of my favorites! But refilling the thing is a pain in the neck!

8. Gel pens.

Are you really a true school supply addict if you don’t have a rainbow of gel pens? They’re perfect for notes, planners and making last minute cards for your friends’ birthdays!

9. Planners.

I’ll admit it. I used to buy a planner every school year, but would never use it. Now, I make a homemade planner with exactly what I want in it and I don’t feel nearly as guilty when I don’t use it. (Again, it makes me feel like I’m organized, even if I’m not quite there yet!)

10. Other Novelty Items.

Usually, anything miniature is a seller for me! Mini notebooks, mini pens, mini binders and mini staplers are just a few. They’re perfect for on-the-go preparedness!

11. Organization Containers.

Paper holders, pencil cups, dividing tins and so much more is out there! Once I have all of my supplies, I need something to keep it all in. I need something to keep my binder clips separated from my paperclips and my paperclips separated from my rubber bands.

Now that I’ve listed the 11 things I love about school supplies, I can’t wait until August when all of the deals spring up again!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
