11 Things Loud People Know Too Well

Being loud is both a blessing and a curse

Some people are naturally loud. For me, my indoor voice is also my outdoor voice and my library voice and my "they're trying to sleep" voice- it's just my voice. I'm louder than most people and I'm okay with that, but if you're the loud friend there are a few things that are basically guaranteed to happen.

1. People always say: "I heard you before I saw you"

People will hear you in the dining hall, in your room, down the hall, or in class before they even turn around to see you. Also, if you're especially loud, you will be blessed with the gift of your voice carrying much further than other people's voices.

2. You can't whisper

Talking about people sitting near you will not be an option and often you will hear, "I'll tell you later" because your friends will know you won't be able to stay quiet about whatever they're talking about. Also, talking about a movie while you're watching it is just out of the picture.

3. Going to the library is a struggle

For the reasons above, going to the library with friends isn't really an option. I can't remember the last time I went to the library with my friends. I literally can't (maybe that's just a me thing). I have to go alone or else I will have the urge to talk and frustrate everyone around me.

4. People's first impression of you is usually a bad one

Getting told: "You were so loud when I first met you" or "I was scared of you" or "You were so overwhelming" is basically a given. I've gotten so used to having to being overly nice when people first meet me so they don't think I'm scary or crazy just because of the volume of my voice.

5. Getting the attention of a group of people is never difficult

I can't even count the amount of times someone has asked me to "get everyone's attention". Also, talking over people is never an issue because your voice is usually the louder one.

6. You're always getting shushed

I get shushed at least once a day and I've discovered it's really hard to permanently lower the natural volume of your voice.

7. You sometimes have trouble hearing people

I constantly can't hear quiet people- maybe it's because my entire family is loud so I'm used to loud voices but it's really hard having a conversation with people with a quiet voice. It's really possible that I just ruined my hearing with my own voice though.

8. You're usually known as the loud friend

If you're loud, you're probably known as "the loud friend" by your own friends and even their families. At some point in your life, this becomes your defining trait.

9. When you get with your loud friends or family, it's overwhelming

Whenever I get with my family or my loud friends, the room becomes so loud it's almost scary. I'm sure this is one of the most frightening things for a quiet person.

10. You hate silence

Silence is actually the worst and loud people probably hate it significantly more than quiet people because it's such a contrast to their normal environment. Loud people are usually the ones to break that silence too (for this exact reason).

11. You can't help being loud

People usually get mad at me for being loud, but it's not just something you can change. If you're loud, you're just loud and you can't help it so you might as well just embrace it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register.
