11 Things I Want to Tell My Long Distance Best Friend
Rachel Verbus

When I hear the term "best friend", I always think of the same person. The girl that I met in third grade, and immediately became close with. My first best friend was a key factor in my childhood, and continues to be an important person in my life today. She moved away before freshman year, but that did not break the bond that we've had for almost 11 years now. There are many things that I want to say to my best friend that I haven't said yet or haven't said enough.

1. You set the standard for every other friend.

Deep down I know that I will never have a friend as amazing as you. The bond that we have is irreplaceable, and I know that nobody in the world could ever compare to you.

2. I miss you more every day.

Although we still talk nearly every day, I miss always hanging out with you. You're still my best friend, but I do miss how close we use to be. It is extremely difficult going from living 5 minutes away from you to 8 hours. What used to be a short drive is now a flight.

3. I will never forget all of our memories.

Over the past ten years, we've done some pretty amazing things together. When I look back at my life, I know that I'll remember the moments with you the most. From Hershey Park trips to visiting you over the summer, you are the person that I have the fondest memories of.

4. I think about you every day.

Even on the days we don't talk, little things that happen throughout my day always remind me of you. I pay attention to what you're doing on Snapchat and Instagram, and if I haven't heard from you in a while, I wonder how you're doing.

5. I tell all my new friends about you.

I'm sure it gets annoying at times, always hearing about how amazing you are and all the fun times we've had. Even my friends who have never met you know who you are and how much you mean to me.

6. You helped me grow as a person.

If it wasn't for all of our late night pep talks and heart-to-hearts, I would not be the person I am. You have inspired me and helped me grow into a bigger and better person. I wouldn't be me without you.

7. You are still the first person I think to tell when anything important happens.

Whether it's good or bad, when something happens I always think about telling you and how you will react to it. I'm so used to telling you all about my life, I can't imagine not having you to talk to about everything.

8. Sometimes I get jealous of other friends.

I know that we now live in different states, but that doesn't stop me from wishing it was me there with you living our last year in high school. To be honest, I am jealous of the friends that get to spend prom, graduation, and the important parts of high school with you.

9. Nobody could ever replace you.

No matter who I become friends with, there will never be another you. I may make new best friends in the future, but they could never measure up to you or our friendship.

10. My family asks about you still.

Growing up, my family got to know and love you just like I did. Every once in a while, my family members mention you and ask how you're doing. I wish you were still here so I could take you to all my family events.

11. I love you.

We've both said it a million times, but I want you to know how true it is. You were the most important part of my childhood, and I love you so much for everything you've done and continue to do for me.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
