11 Little Things That Ruin The Day

As much as we all try to have a positive outlook on life, there are some days where all it takes is one little thing to totally put a damper on your day. Yes, it might seem a little dramatic to let one little thing ruin your day, but when you're already tired and stressed, (or hungover) all it takes is one little incident to send the mood for your day spiraling downward. My mom always used to tell me, "Stop making mountains out of mole hills," but sometimes it's just the way it is.

For the average college student, here are 11 things that should really be no big deal, but in combination with lack of sleep, stress, hunger etc. become kind of a huge deal.

1. Your phone dies in the middle of the day.

Like noon, right when you need to be stalking Instagram during lunch. It's probably because you forgot to charge it (again), or because you are on it 24/7 and drained the battery all morning. Bring a charger along next time to avoid the panic that stems from having no phone.

2. You forget deodorant.

Don't lie, we all know this has happened to us at one point in our lives. You wake up late, are super rushed and forget to swipe on some deodorant before you run out of the house. Get ready to spend the rest of the day paranoid that you smell bad.

3. It's raining and you forgot your umbrella.

Of course, the way it works is if you always have an umbrella it never rains, the day you forget it? Torrential downpour.

4. Five or more missed calls or texts from Mom or your significant other.

We have all been there, and we know the consequences are not pleasant (or brief). Just answer your phone people, your mom and girlfriend with thank you for it.

5. You miss the bus.

You budget just enough time to get from one class to another by riding the bus. But your teacher won't stop talking, or has an iClicker question at the very end and you miss it. Time to speed walk, or just give up and go home.

6. You spill your coffee.

Whether in the car, sitting down, or just walking there are a thousand things going on, and you have a bunch of stuff to carry and sometimes our reflexes just suck. Don't cry over spilled milk, but spilled coffee? Go ahead and let it out.

7. "Your" machine at the gym is taken.

Every girl in the world is always on the Stair Master when you need it, and I know it's the same for guys because there is always a constant line about eight guys deep for the weight bench. At that point just call it a day and consider the walk home your daily workout.

8. You dressed for the 70 degree morning weather, and its 89 degrees at noon.

This is an all too common problem in Florida. You wake up and its cold, so you dress a little warmer, but get ready for noon to roll around and you'll by dying in your long sleeve shirt. Dress in layers or suffer the sweaty consequences.

9. The wi-fi is out or slow.

You're cramming to finish your quiz due by 5 p.m. and the wi-fi in the house is moving at snail speed. Do you turn on your data or anxiously mess with wires and reset buttons trying to fix it? Probably both.

10. You see someone you really don't want to see.

It's different for everyone but whenever you look your worst, you can count on seeing someone you just really don't want to. Avoid eye contact, and then think about how awkward it was for the rest of the day.

11. Parking tickets.

You spend the whole day in classes, meetings, and at work only to come out and find a big fat parking ticket stuck under your windshield wipers. What a great end to a great day.

If one (or more) of these things happen to you, just take a deep breath, try and relax and tell yourself that at least there is wine and Netflix at home.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
