By owning a puppy, you take on a load of responsibilities. You not only have to worry about taking care of yourself, but also another "person." But with this load of responsibilities comes some of the most rewarding life lessons.
To break it down for you, here are 11 life skills that you learn by owning a puppy.
1. It's a stress reliever.
Puppies are the best "pick me up" at the end of the day. After that rough day, or tough exam, why would you not want to pet an adorable puppy to make you feel awesome? It relieves your stress by letting you forget about the day’s work and have fun!
2. Creates happiness.
Puppies are pure happiness. They are cute, playful creatures that instantly put a smile on people's faces by simply existing. They are fluffy little blobs of adorable. The only thing better than cute puppies is pizza -- and that can only last so long.
3. Shows responsibility.
Taking care of puppy is huge responsibility! You can barely take care of yourself, and adding the responsibility of taking care of another being is a whole other level. Feeding, grooming, walking, and training teaches you to be responsible, not only for you but for your puppy, too.
4. Exudes great time management skills.
Being able to juggle work, school, and other activities on top of a puppy should be a reality TV show, because that is definitely a handful. If you have that skill down, you should be getting hired left and right.
5. Shows commitment in a relationship.
Loving and committing your time to another being shows good relationship qualities, even if it’s a puppy or a dog! This shows others that you are qualified boyfriend/girlfriend material. You're a catch, and someone is gonna be real lucky... to have a cute puppy with them!
6. An excuse to be active.
No matter your level of lazy, that puppy of yours will be a firecracker of energy, so that means the great outdoors is calling your name. Go on a walk with the pup, or go to the dog park to make some new puppy friends. Either way, you will be active and getting that nice summer tan that the vampires indoors will envy.
7. Create a sense of humor.
Having a puppy will open a new world of laughs and funny moments that will make life a whole lot more fun. There is something that will make you question what they were thinking, but it's definitely worth the laughter!
8. Develop confrontational skills.
Nobody likes confrontation. It’s awkward, stressful and just not fun, but it needs to be done. When your puppy does something “not so amazing," you have to address the issue directly and not avoid the problem, like in any other relationship.
9. Failure is okay.
Puppies will learn as they grow and make many mistakes along the way, and that is exactly what we do as we grow up. Everyone could learn that it is okay to fail and make mistakes through life. After a puppy stumbles and falls, they get right back up and continue to prance along with a huge smile on their face!
10. Consciousness of surroundings.
Having a puppy would let you be more aware of your surroundings, especially when there is a squirrel around. Any sight of a moving object will catch your attention as well as your furry companion's!
11. Teaches you how to love.
Most importantly, the puppy will teach how to love something endlessly. Learning to love is essential to anyone’s life no matter who you are!
