Cristina Grimmie became famous when she went on The Voice in 2014. However, she didn't get her start on this show. Grimmie was known before this as a YouTube singer under the username zeldaxlove64. Of course after the show, her videos became more popular. Tragically, Christina was killed on June 11, 2016. To honor this brilliant artist, here are some of her lesser known covers.
1. "Just A Dream" by Nelly
In this cover, Christina Grimmie, Sam Tsui, and Kurt Hugo Schneider team up to create a beautifully touching version of this Nelly song.
2. "Say Something" by A Great Big World Ft. Christina Aguilera
In this cover, Grimmie keeps it blissfully simple. It's flawless.
3. "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen
This is a tricky song to cover because it has been done so many times. Even early in her career, she knew how to make a song her own. She also knew how to balance the powerhouse of her belt and her softer and crystal clear head-voice.
4. "I Dreamed A Dream" from Les Mis
This song more than many is clear proof that she was a versatile artist capable of honing her sound to fit the song.
5. "Your Song" by Elton John
With this piece, Grimmie mixes video of her singing with footage of her and her friends and also mixes her growly belt with a lovely gentleness.
6. "Fireflies" by Owl City
This cover is a bit more upbeat in tempo than some of the others, making it especially fun. It's no surprise that this is one of her more popular covers, especially with her piano playing.
7. Lego House by Ed Sheeran
I'll never get over how neat her hairstyles always were, and also her ability to masterfully glide through this tricky song.
8. "Elastic Heart" by Sia
Taking on a Sia song is never a small task and Grimmie was up for it. I love how bubbly and energetic she always was when filming.
9. "Do I Wanna Know" by Arctic Monkeys
A haunting twist on an awesome Arctic Monkeys song, Grimmie slows things down with this cover.
10. "Heroes" by Alesso and Tove Lo
With just her and a piano, this simple version of "Heroes" is a wonderful Grimmie cover. Her upper register in this is gorgeous.
11. "Give Me Love" by Ed Sheeran
What I love about this is that since she is goofing around with a friend, this is less rehearsed and isn't perfect, yet it is still absolutely beautiful, showing her pure talent. I also love her halo of lights and that crazy riff at 2:34 that she just casually throws in.
Despite how amazing they all are, Christina had more than just covers. She had two albums of her own called "With Love" and "Find Me". Here are some songs from them:
If one thing is for sure, it's that the world has lost not just a brilliant, talented artist but also a bubbly, energetic, silly, kind soul. Rest in peace, Christina Grimmie.
