Every year at around spring time, college students look forward to being able to relax, go on vacation, or just get away from campus life. Unfortunately, for spring sport student athletes training is still a top priority. When you're not in class, you're time is spent training and during Spring Break is no exception. Here are some things that somehow capture the feeling everyone has spending their Spring Break training.
1. When you see your dorm neighbors leave at least two days before the break starts.
Oh, you don't have midterms on Thursday or Friday? I could have left early too, but you know, I have practice for the next week.
2. If you live far from home, going to see family or to your house may actually not be an option.
When you live far from home, plane tickets can be expensive to go home. If coach changes the practice time too, you may not be able to make a last minute schedule change either. It's a hard (but also costly) choice to make.
3. If you choose to live on campus, chances are only a few food options will be open.
Hope you like bagels because the bagel shop is typically the only thing that is open.
4. The amount of vacation photos from all of your friends bring you a serious amount of discomfort.
Is that the Caribbean? Hawaii? Mexico? It doesn't matter because you're in paradise...
5. You can never really sleep in because practice hours have been modified to mess with your mornings.
It confuses you; you feel like you're walking around blindly and for all you know you missed it by an hour. How? The scheduling for facilities got all out of whack.
6. You can relate to any other spring athlete that you see having practice on campus...
It's comforting knowing you're not suffering alone.
7. ... Until you see the pictures of all the teams on training trips to warm places like Arizona, California or Colorado.
"Spending SB training? Oh, I know exactly how you feel..." says the guy casually sitting in the Grand Canyon. Or the group that poses on one of the sunny shores of San Diego.
8. But as you spend more time training, you remember what really matters—finishing the season strong.
You're here for a reason. You can't stop now and quite frankly, there is no reason you should want to.
9. The chance to hang out and spend time with your second family is what really matters.
If you want your team to become your second family, the best way to achieve this is through bonding. Some of the best times I've had with teammates was when were able to bond over the travesty of spring break training.
11. However, above all else, if and when you do in fact, have some time to see your own bed (or in some cases dogs) it is liberating.
... Need I say more?
