Being a young artist can be tough, to say the least.
If only we lived in a world where possessing talent for an art meant you would automatically thrive. Young artists know, however, that there are many frustrations that come with the blessing of artistic ability.
1. Working at a job you don't enjoy
It's hard to survive solely off your art, especially right when you are starting out. Many days you have to wake up, have a good cry over your cereal, and face your dreaded day job.
2. Being asked to engage in your art for free
This seriously sucks. Why is it that artists are always being asked to work for free? Your dentist never works for free! Forget it, demand that money you deserve!!
3. Ending up engaging in your art for free
Dammit, they won. But sometimes, you do it, and you do it for free. But not because you can be taken advantage of, but because you sadly love your art form that much. Doing it, sometimes even for free, still brings you joy.
4. Running from job to job
You just finished that job, and now it's on to the next. Soon, that one is done, and you're already searching yet again. Does the cycle ever end?
5. Dishing out loads of money you don't have for art school
Yep, just throw it all into the hands of greedy institutions. Just open up your wallet, sell your house, hand over your collection of Yu-Gi-Oh cards, give them everything.
6. Drowning in the debt you've acquired from art school
And even after you kiss your last Yu-Gi-Oh card goodbye, the worst is still yet to come. Get ready for the debt storm.
7. Wondering if it was worth it to spend all this money on art school?!
Should you have done it? Should you have just become a monk instead?!
8. Having to squeeze your art form into your already busy daily life
Not fair! Business people get to work and do business-type-things at their jobs everyday! But you have to go to your job, do whatever it is that you have to do, and then come home and then begin working on your art.
9. Trying to gain respect from already established artists
PLEASE LET THEM NOTICE YOU. PLEASE LET THEM LOVE YOU.
10. Battling a million other talented young artists
There are so many. You have to distinguish yourself from that cat on the treadmill walking alongside you. You have to show them you are a better treadmill cat walker. Better yet, the BEST treadmill cat walker there ever was.11. ALL while trying to keep your cool
Personality is important, right?! So now you have to take on all these things all while staying the calm, cool, talented artist that you are. You can do this. Breathe.
