Florida is basically the American equivalent of the Australian Outback

Florida, the Sunshine State, the land of relaxation. It's beautiful. The beaches are equivalent to paradise, there are plenty of cute beach towns to roam and practically anywhere you go, you're guaranteed to soak up the sun.

But, what happens when you call Florida your home year round? When summer starts setting in (or rather just appears one morning out of the blue), Floridians begin preparing for the onslaught of days hotter than those on the sun. Sure, we're excited for beach days, lake days, and relaxing days in general. But, how are we supposed to enjoy these days when you can't walk out of your front door without sweat immediately layering your skin?

The simple answer is, we just do. If you've lived in Florida for any amount of time, odds are you will relate to these things a little too well.

1. Wanting to go outside and have summer fun, but knowing the heat will probably be too much.

Seriously, who is controlling the thermostat for the state of Florida?!

2. Knowing the swarms of bugs might be your demise.

Where do they even come from? One minute the air is sweet and bug free, then all of a sudden -- Bam! They just appear. It's as if they sweep in with the heat.

3. Was that thunder? The weather forecast didn't say anything about rain today!

You check the weather report religiously because nothing is worse than laying at the beach and seeing a mass of black clouds rolling your way.

4. The ultimate decision if the beach is worth facing the beating sun and sand sticking to your sweaty body.

It's really all about how much you love the beach and how much comfort you're willing to sacrifice for that love. For me, it's usually a big nope.

5. The ridiculous pressure of having to attain the perfect beach bod.

And, accepting the fact that it's just not going to happen. The sun doesn't care what I look like in a bathing suit; it only cares about the amount of skin it gets to fry.

6. Just sweat. All of the sweat.

It's the most unavoidable part of Florida summers. It's also the worst part. Basically, it's just terrible.

6. Spying tourists completely unprepared for their Florida vacation.

The sunburn, the sweat, the sore feet, it's all just a simple mistakethat we find a small amount of humor in.

7. Wanting to go swimming in fresh water... but knowing what lives in it...

And, although alligators usually mind their own business, sometimes the risk is too much. I mean, look at that mouth!

8. Wanting to go in the ocean, but also knowing what lives there too.

OK, so maybe it's not "Jaws," but still! Just that mouth alone is enough to steer me to the closest pool!

9. Deciding the pool is the safest option for swimming until you jump into warm bath water.

It feels about as bad as the heat, but it'll make due. Warm bath water is better than no water at all, right?

10. Accepting defeat and the fact that the heat will always win.

As Floridians, we simply understand that the summer is, for the most part, unbearably hot. Therefore, we either make due or we just let the heat have us.

11. But, loving Florida because at least we live where everyone else wants to -- right?

It's probably just because we're the only people crazy enough to live in the American version of the Australian outback where everything can kill you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
