Working at a fast food restaurant is great. You get to stand on your feet for about five to 10 hours at a time, sometimes with no break. The general public is always super nice and barely complains about things such as their fries not being salty enough or too many pickles on their sandwich. Sometimes we mess up, but that’s just because most of us are uneducated high school drop outs and not college students trying to pay our bills. The following is a list of 10 things that all fast food workers "love" to deal with during long shifts with extremely low pay.
1. When you don’t say please or thank you.
We absolutely love when we treat people with the utmost courtesy and respect and don’t get thanked for it. Oh, and getting orders barked at us like a dog also brightens our day.
2. Or even worse, the awkward stare.
You just drove off without uttering a single word to me, even when directly addressed. Awesome.
3. When you’re on your phone at the speaker box and the window.
Oh, your order is wrong? I repeated your order back to you and after completely ignoring me, you acknowledged me with a little head nod after I said, “is that correct?” I sincerely apologize, let me hold up the line even further to fix that for you.
4. When you ask us to throw your trash away for you.
This might be our favorite part of the day. There is a trash can literally 10 feet in front of you, but sure, I’d love to be your human garbage can.
5. When you take 27 years to find your money.
While you were digging around in your car for change, I got married, had my first born child, and purchased my first home. You just spent five minutes in line, but we understand that it takes a lot of time and energy to reach in your purse and have your card ready at the window. And finding change can be a real hassle, so we prefer when you do it as slowly as possible at the window to relieve you of any unnecessary stress.
6. Barely putting your hand out of the window to grab things.
Allow me to break my hip trying to hand you things that you could easily outstretch your arm and get. It’s our pleasure.
7. Asking for 20 sauces for one meal.
We absolutely understand that you need one sauce per chicken nugget. Allow me to support your hoarding habit and give you sauces that will sit in your kitchen cabinet for years or even worse, get thrown away.
8. When you empty your old drinks out in the drive thru.
Nothing says respect like dumping soft drinks on the ground in front of our faces.
9. When you grab the food extremely slow.
We love when you take your sweet time taking your change, drink and food from us. It’s not like we have anything better to do or anyone else to serve.
10. Parking extremely far away from the window.
This is where we get our exercise in for the day.
11. Looking at us and blatantly saying “ketchup.”
My personal favorite. Would you like some ketchup? Can I get some ketchup for you? I’m still trying to understand what this means.
If you couldn’t tell, the above was a satire list. Yes, there are many things that drive fast food workers to the point of insanity. However, thank you to all of the kind people out there that make our day worth it. We genuinely want you to be satisfied and to continue to support our restaurants.
