As little kids, we all loved Disney. Growing up, you probably watched almost every Disney movie there is. While it seemed then that the movies were pure entertainment, what we didn't realize was that some of the movies taught us lessons that we would carry on into adulthood. Perhaps these lessons even shaped us into the people we are today. I'm not saying that frogs are totally kissable, or that you should eat a poisonous apple. However, despite their usually magical themes, some Disney movies have unforgettable quotes. These quotes are inserted in disguised ways.Yet, somehow we always remember them.
Here are ten Disney quotes that teach life-long lessons:
1. You Can Learn From Your Past Mistakes
"Oh yes, the past can hurt. But you can either run from it, or learn from it." -Rafiki, "The Lion King"
Almost everybody remembers this iconic scene from The "Lion King." While Rafiki may seem a little eccentric, he spoke very wise words to Simba. While things from our past may seem to weigh us down, it's easy to try to just forget they happened. What we should be doing is learning from our mistakes, therefore becoming a better person than we were before.
2. Keep On Dreaming Even If It Breaks Your Heart
"No matter how your heart is grieving, if you keep on believing, the dream that you wish will come true." -Cinderella, "Cinderella"
While the dream that you wish now may seem far away or impossible, you should never just give up. Giving up is the easy way out. keep dreaming and doing everything you can to achieve that dream. With a lot of belief, and a little "magic", anything is possible.
3. There's More To A Person Than Just Their Appearance
"Do not be fooled by its commonplace appearance. Like so many things, it is not what's outside that counts, but what is inside that counts." -Merchant, "Aladdin"
While it's easy to judge a person based on how they look, we may lose sight of how preciously unique that person is. Things aren't always the way they seem. Get to know somebody before you place a "label" on them.
4. Love Is Sacrifice
"Some people are worth melting for." -Olaf, "Frozen"
Love is compromise. Love can mean sacrifices. When you truly love someone, you will know. You will want to do anything for them.
5. Overcome Obstacles
"The very things that hold you down are going to lift you up" -Timothy the Mouse, "Dumbo"
The obstacles placed in our lives shouldn't hinder us. Never give up, because what is hurting you now, will only make you stronger and better.
6. It's Not Okay To Be Rude
"If you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all." -Thumper, "Bambi"
This famous quote is a variation of the "Golden Rule", and has been used ever since by our mothers. It really is better to keep your not-so-nice thoughts to yourself.
7. Don't Let Others Decide Your Fate
“You must not let anyone define your limits because of where you come from. Your only limit is your soul.” – Gusteau, "Ratatouille"
Don't let others decide your future, and what you can or can't be. It's ultimately up to you what you want to do, with or without support.
8. Show Some Kindness Every Day
“A little consideration, a little thought for others, makes all the difference.” – Eeyore, "Winnie the Pooh"
Sometimes one little act of kindness can change the world. For all you know, a person could have been having depressive or suicidal thoughts that day. By doing a small act of kindness, such as opening the door and having a small conversation with that person, you can make their day better.
9. Never Turn Your Back On Family
"Ohana means family, family means nobody gets left behind. Or forgotten." – Lilo, "Lilo and Stitch"
You've heard the saying "blood is thicker than water". Apply that here. Family consists of the people who watched you grow up, and who guided you through life. Never turn your back on family for petty reasons.
10. Be Adventurous
"Venture outside your comfort zone. The rewards are worth it." -Rapunzel, "Tangled"
Sometimes change is good. You'll never know unless you venture outside of what you "know". Take a risk and make a change!
11. Embrace Your Flaws
"The things that make me different are the things that make me" -Winnie the Pooh, "Winnie the Pooh"
Embrace your flaws. Without them, you wouldn't be you. I guarantee God loves you just the way you are, so you should do the same. When He made us, he put different ingredients in each of our recipes.
Be You. Be Unique. Be Kind. Be Brave. Be Motivated. Be Loving. Be Disney.
