11 Things Dancers Are Tired Of Hearing
Becky Lallande

Dance is a beautiful and incredibly powerful art form that can teach you many lessons beyond your routines. I've been dancing ballet for 12 years, and since my childhood it's helped me grow into the person I am today. These are a few of the things that I've heard about dancing from friends and family over the years.

1. "Dance isn't a sport."

No. It's more than that. It's agility, strength, beauty, and art all in one. There's a common misconception that dance is easy, but it takes a real athlete to dance with grace and speed while making it look beautiful.

2. "Can you show me a dance move?"

Um, sorry, no. I'm not warmed up, and I'm not showing you a dance move in the middle of the hallway.

3. "I took a dance class when I was 4. It was so fun!"

Cool. So did everyone else.

4. "How flexible are you? Can you show me?"

Why am I always asked this when I'm wearing jeans?

5. "Wow, you eat so much for a dancer."

Do you know how many calories we burn from our rehearsals?

6. "I take Zumba twice a week. So I totally understand how hard dance is."

Please.

7. "What's modern? Is that like interpretive dancing?"

Um, no.

8. "Can't you just skip dance?"

I will never skip rehearsal to hang out with you. Sorry.

9. "Can you do all of those spins?"

First of all, they are called turns, and I can do a triple on a good day.

10. "Are you as good as the dancers on 'Dance Moms'?"

Probably not. Sometimes you just have to accept that little children are better than you. But still it's a rude question.

11. "What are you going to do after you quit dance?"

Eh. I'll just keep dancing until my body breaks. Thanks.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
