11 Cringe-Worthy Socially Awkward Moments That We've All Experienced

Regardless of whether you're a social butterfly or an introvert, you're bound to run into a few of these moments that will make you seriously consider moving to another country. Everyone who has ever told a story that no one laughed at (except you), waved at someone who wasn't waving to you, or responded, "You too!" in a completely inappropriate situation, this one's for you guys.

1. You think that someone is waving at you so you wave back animatedly, only to realize that they were really waving at someone behind you.

You try to play it off, pretending to smooth your hair back, but it's too late. The other person has noticed and they're either laughing or giving you a super weird look. The next time that you think someone is waving at you, you're going to be sure to look around first to make sure that it's directed at you.

2. "Happy birthday!" "You too!"

You immediately regret your words the instant that they come out of your mouth. Well, they're going to have a birthday eventually.

3. You're in someone's way and you both sidestep in the same direction. Then you do it again.

You find yourself stuck in the middle of a painful, unexpected dance-off. It was kind of funny the first time, but now it's just uncomfortable.

4. You go in for a hug when they were expecting a handshake.

The awkwardness is palpable and you are dead inside.

5. Someone walks up to you and asks you how you've been, but you have no clue who they are.

You have no idea what to say to this person, so you do your best to end the conversation as quickly as possible.

6. You ask someone how they're doing. They say, "I'm good. How are you?" Then you say, "Good, and you?"

There's no coming back from this one. You may as well pack your bags and move to another country.

7. You're in the middle of a conversation with someone and you say something really, really weird.

The other person has no idea how to respond, so you guys stare at each other in silence for an unbearable amount of time. Well, that's the last time that you'll try social interaction.

8. You're in the middle of telling a story and you realize that no one is listening anymore.

The group's attention has shifted to someone more interesting than you. In an attempt to save face, you quietly trail off in the middle of a sentence, hoping that no one will notice.

9. You tell a joke, but no one laughs except for you.

People cringe as you cackle at your impressive wit. They obviously just don't have the deep appreciation for comedy that you do. It's their loss, really.

10. Your friend talks to someone who you don't know and doesn't introduce you, so you just awkwardly smile at them.

Although your friend has probably only been talking to this person for a couple of minutes, it feels like infinity. You try to make eye contact with your friend and transmit a telepathic message: "Please. We have to go now." Maybe this is what Purgatory feels like.

11. A song comes on the radio and everyone knows all of the words except for you.

You do your best to sing along, trying to guess what the next word will be, but you keep butchering the lines and everyone notices.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
