11 Classic Softball Cheers

Easy, simple and loud.

When you’ve been around the game long enough you develop habits, some good, like raking through your backhand, and some bad, like pulling your head off the ball. Some habits we develop without even realizing, like cheers. If you pay attention to the cheers your teammates and even you say throughout the game, you’ll find that nobody really strays away from what they always say. Here’s a list of the 11 cheers that seem to be our go-to’s.

1. Hey, here we go kid.

This is as classic as it gets. It’s simple and straight to the point. It can be used on every situation on the field and even in life.

2. Gooooooooood.

I find that my team uses this one either after our pitcher pitches a great pitch or after our batters hold up from swinging at that evil riseball.

3. Too fast too fast for you no soup, no soup for you.

I’m not sure who started this one but we sure put it to use. We use this one after someone stills or beats out a bunt.

4. Hootyhoo.

Every team adopts some kind of noise. We use this cheer everywhere. In the quad when trying to get one of our teammates' attention or on the field when we’re just trying to get one of our teammates to smile. Softball is supposed to be fun, remember?

5. Atta baby or atta girl.

Another classic that is written in the softball handbook somewhere I’m sure.

6. Hoorah 1-3 1-2-3 hoorah.

We use this cheer when somebody gets a clutch hit. We salute them when we say hoorah and the hitter salutes us back.

7. Hey, how ‘bout a little hookie pokie?

Translation: how ‘bout a little base hit.

8. Haley on three 1-2-3 Haaaaaaaleeeeeeeey.

We have two Haley’s on the team so we get the pleasure of doing this one a couple times a game.

9. Here we go 2-3 get a rip right here (rip rip).

One of our fabulous seniors is the owner of this cheer.

10. Go big Lexi uh go big Lexi aye.

Continuing with the senior theme, a senior all-american from Chicago that gets to claim this one.

11. We. Don't. Move.

Contrary to popular belief getting hit with a softball sometime hurts, a lot. So when one of us makes the ultimate sacrifice of staying in there and taking one for the team, we bust out this baby.

Every team has its own identity with its own cheers. These happen to be our 11 go-to cheers. Nothing fancy, nothing too over the top. But our three conference series sweeps can tell you our cheers are working.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
