Are you a young woman? Do you have tattoos? If you said yes to both of these questions, odds are you have been asked some pretty ridiculous questions because of it! I know I have heard some pretty silly comments and questions before in regards to my tattoos. Actually, even if you aren’t a woman, but you are still young and tatted, you too have probably heard some of the same things. Getting bothered about my tattoos gets really old, really quickly.
I almost think that the tattoo shop should issues warning to all their clients saying, “WARNING: Understand that getting a tattoo will more than likely result in having to listen to ridiculous questions and comments. Your chances nearly double if you are under the age of 35 and female." So, after hearing my fair share of things from others, I give the world 10 things young women with tattoos are tired of hearing:
1. “You know those are forever, right?”
This comment has to be one of the most annoying out of them all. Like, wait, what do you mean tattoos are forever? I thought they came off after four to six washes! Seriously? Yes, I know it is forever, that is kind of the point.
2. “You were such a beautiful young lady, why would you ruin that?”
Oh, I didn’t realize getting tattoos ruined my beauty. If that’s the case then I am with SpongeBob. I am ugly and I'm proud. I mean, I don’t feel any less beautiful, but what do I know?
3. “Do you have any idea what they will look like when you’re old?”
No, I don’t know what they will look like when I am old, but I am going to guess they will be just as saggy and wrinkly a person’s non-tattooed skin.
4. “You are going to regret them one day.”
Maybe I will, maybe I won’t. I personally believe that if it meant something to me at one point in my life, that it always will. Even if it isn’t relevant to me anymore, it is something that shaped me as a person.
5. “What kind of example will you be setting for your future kids?”
I will set a wonderful example for my future children because my tattoos do not determine how I parent. I will be like any other loving, caring and amazing mother. The only difference is I will have rad art on my skin.
6. “You know people are going to judge you now, right?”
Like you are right now? Believe it or not, getting a tattoo does not, in fact, mean you sign your life away to drugs and violence! Just because I have tattoos does not mean I am any different than I was an hour before getting my tattoo. I know I am a good person and that my tattoos don’t change that. I believe that is all that matters.
7. “No boy is going to want a girl who is all inked up.”
Seriously? This one gets really old really fast. First, the right person will want to me with me no matter what and second, I don’t care if boys don’t want me because I have tattoos. Plus, I don’t want a boy; I want a man.
8. “Good luck finding a job with those tattoos.”
Are you sure about that? Like, are you positive? I am sure as long as the tattoo is appropriate and can be covered, I will be fine. Thank you for the good luck though!
9. “I can’t believe you spent all that money on a tattoo, I would never.”
Really? And I can’t believe someone would spend so much money on a new iPhone when they just got a new one last year! People do questionable things with their money, man! Also, quick question, when did you become my financial adviser again?
10. “Hey, you got something on your arm right there, oh wait, that’s your tattoo, never mind!”
Oh dang, you got me! I haven’t ever heard that one before! That was so original! On a serious note, this joke is awful and overdone, please for the sake of my mental health, stop.
Girls who have tattoos are not any less beautiful or respectable than a girl who doesn’t have any tattoos. Tattoos are a form of art, they are an investment and most importantly, they are a part of someone’s body. Whether a person’s tattoo has a deep meaning behind it or not, it is something that they take pride in and you should not be bothered because we have them. We are so tired of hearing those comments and questions that were listed. So, let's stand up for the tattooed ladies in the world and let them know they are just as good as the ladies with un-tattooed skin!
