Being 19 years old, I can say proudly that One Direction has been apart of me for over half of my life. I've gone to concerts with and without Zayn Malik, I've tried to go to as many solo shows as possible, and the amount of money spent on merchandise is insane. In a way, I as well as the millions of other fans have directly helped them buy their own houses and cars.
All over social media, rumors have circulated that One Direction will release a website and some modified playlists for this awaited anniversary. Of course, if that ends up being true, we would be grateful to get any kind of recognition from them. However, fans waited several years for them to say anything, when the boys promised their hiatus to be only eighteen months in 2015. It's rude to think we are owed anything, because this band gave us so many unforgettable memories. I'd go through it all over again, not for anything in return, but just to feel that happiness once more.
Although. there is still a tiny part in the majority of our hearts that just wanted a bit more.
A website and playlist just doesn't seem personal enough. I guess to the fans it just looks like they may not be close anymore because a website and playlist doesn't require a reunion. Ten years is a huge milestone in this industry. New music or unreleased songs would be a great surprise; we'd love that. What we really all wanted was some kind of reunion, whether it was a show or tour, just a last hurrah before they say goodbye to that part of their lives for good.
If One Direction is over, we don't want to hear about the hiatus anymore; a goodbye would be sufficient. It's okay to let go of the past as long as they are happy with where they are now. In fact, we'd prefer that so we could let go of that bit of hope that's holding us back.
One Direction is one of the biggest boy bands today, and have allowed millions of people to connect with each other and form some of the most amazing bonds. Tomorrow is July 23rd, a big mark in the history of boy bands. No one really knows what to expect, but we're grateful for everything we've been given so far.
It's been a great ten years.
