Winter break is such a glorious thing. We have weeks and weeks with no homework, no early morning classes, and absolutely nothing to study for. There's so much time and potential at our fingertips. Yet, what are 99% of us planning to do? You're planning a Netflix binge, aren't you? Now, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with some casual watching. But come on people, are you going to waste your whole break on the couch?! We won't have this kind of opportunity again for months! Luckily, I'm here to help. Use this time to have adventures and make memories, not burn through a whole Netflix series. Here are some fun alternatives:
Decorate Cookies
Don't be a cheater and pop those pre-decorated Pillsbury cookies in the oven. Take some time to bond with your family or friends and decorate some Christmas cookies! Your relatives are bound to be impressed by how awesome they look (or if not, then how awesome they taste).
Make a Gingerbread House
If you're not so great at baking cookies, then gingerbread houses are for you. You get all the fun of decorating without the pressure of making anything taste good.
Play in the Snow
It sounds like a no-brainer, but it's way too easy to stay in bed and sleep the whole day away. In a few weeks you're going to be stuck inside a classroom or at the library constantly, so enjoy the fresh air while it's available! Build a snowman, go sledding, have a snowball fight, make a snow fort, or just go exploring. Take advantage of your freedom now while you still have your Mom to make hot cocoa for you and your friends.
Ice Skating
Even though ice skating sounds like a pretty standard winter activity, think about it- when was the last time you actually went ice skating? Your 4th grade field trip? Round up the crew, bust out your cutest hat/scarf combo, and hit the ice.
Christmas Movie Marathon
Before you call me hypocritical, hear me out! Netflix can be watched all year long- Christmas movies have a small window of opportunity. Basically, it's now or never. Snuggle up in your coziest blanket and settle in for a day of Christmas cheer.
Do Some Crafting
Forgot to buy presents for some people on your list? Instead of blowing all your money on individual items, pick up some crafting supplies. Homemade gifts are so much more thoughtful, and your family will appreciate the personal touches.
Plan a Holiday Party
You've probably spent the majority of your break in pajamas, so let's shake it up a little bit! There are so many great reasons to celebrate over the vacation. Plus, it'll be super fun to get all dressed up and gather all of your high school friends together again.
Do Some Cleaning
Don't wait for spring to do some cleaning- do it now! Donate those clothes that you never bring back to school to make room for all the clothes you're going to get for Christmas. And chances are, if they haven't already, your parents are going to start cleaning out the junk in your room when you go back to school. Beat them to it so you can pick and choose what gets to stay and what can go.
Decorate
Once you've cleaned your room, you'll have more room to spruce it up! Get rid of those zebra print decorations from 8th grade and replace them with some more adult items.
Get a Makeover
New year, new you right? Get a haircut. Go Shopping. Learn some new makeup or hair tricks. Vacation is the perfect time to test run some new looks, and you'll look amazing
