I don't know about you, but sometimes life can feel like a pattern. We fall into a rut and it can be difficult to escape. Recently my days seem to go like this: hear my alarm, press snooze a million times until I HAVE to wake up, go to work, come home, eat dinner, visit with family/have time to myself and go to bed. And then the same pattern tends to take place the next day.

Well, I want to turn that around! I want to have joy be at the center of how I go about my day. Joy is like a breath of fresh air when we can stop for a minute and look at how great life really is. A quote I came across changed my perspective about that three-letter word. "Joy is a decision, a really brave one, about how you are going to respond to life" - Wess Stafford. Not all moments in life are exciting, happy, or out-of-this-world. But we can still get joy out of even the smallest of moments. Here is a list of 10 items that can help you do just that.

1. Service

It can be in the form of a small random act of kindness, like paying for someone's coffee who's in line ahead of you at Starbucks. Or it can be something bigger like making Blessing Bags filled with hygiene products and snacks to give out to homeless folks. Volunteering fills me with the greatest joy. Giving to others in complete selflessness is a beautiful thing.

2. Having a "life catch up" with a friend

Chatting and laughing with good friends is joyful. There's nothing better than spending time with friends and having quality conversations.

3. Taking a walk

Being outside in nature and walking your dog at the same time, for example, is wonderful combination.

4. Spontaneous gift-giving

Out shopping and notice the perfect item you know your friend would enjoy? Get it for them! They will love the surprise of receiving a gift, and it doesn't even have to be their birthday.

5. Reflection/prayer

Let one of the Fruits of the Holy Spirit (JOY) fill you up as you are in God's presence. Reflection and prayer let you have a moment of peace in the midst of a crazy, busy life.

6. Randomly buy yourself flowers

The beautiful colors and the sweet aroma of fresh cut flowers will brighten your day in an instant. It doesn't have to be a certain occasion to enjoy them.

7. Making a joy-filled playlist

Find one on Spotify or create your own! Every time you listen, you will be uplifted. If you're choosing the DIY option, I recommend songs such as "Brand New" by Ben Rector, "Head Full of Dreams" by Coldplay or "I'm Good" by the Mowgli's to add to it.

8. Color

An adult coloring book is like the greatest invention ever and proof that you're never too old to color. It's relaxing, and after you're finished you can marvel at the design.

9. Looking through old photos

Reminiscing on "the good 'ol days" is the best. Doing this activity with family or friends is the most fun. I mean, who doesn't like remembering good life moments that were captured on camera?

10. Going for a drive

Windows down, music up style. You don't have to have a destination in mind.

Joy can be everywhere and anywhere. Just seek it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
