Summer in New Jersey is pretty unpredictable, except for one thing — chances are, it's usually hot. What are my tips to beat the heat? Here you go!
- Stay hydrated! Drink lots of clear fluids (like water).
- Wear light-colored clothes! As much as I adore wearing black, try to avoid wearing black, navy and other dark colors in direct sunlight.
- Wear a lightweight sunscreen. I know a lot of people don’t even wear sunscreen these days, but really, it is so important to take care of your skin. Not only will you prevent premature aging and wrinkles, you’ll also prevent skin cancer. Just make sure to get a lightweight sunscreen so you don’t feel like you’re wrapped in glue.
- Eat light foods! Have salads, cold drinks, ice pops, etc. Anything you enjoy during the year can be modified so it’s not as heavy in your tummy when the temps are scorching!
- Wear breathable shoes! If you can, wear some flip flops, sandals or open-toed shoes. If you can’t, wear sneakers with breathable material! Nothing is worse than feeling like your feet are going to explode into little firebombs.
- Wet your head! Nothing is cuter than wet hair that dries under the summer sun! If your head is wet, you’ll be a lot cooler — trust me!
- Carry a fan or water spritzer. OK, maybe not with you everywhere you go. I can promise you that you’ll want this handy dandy contraption if you are visiting theme parks over the summer months (like Disney World).
- Sit in the shade! Whether you're at the beach or reading outside, sit in the shade (under a tree or umbrella) and you'll instantly feel much cooler.
- Utilize air conditioning! AC is the best invention ever. Air is bae. Use it and sit in front of it to cool yourself down in an instant.
- Go for a swim! Take a dip in the backyard pool or flit through the ocean, lake or river. Whatever it be, get in the water! You’ll be so happy you did. Plus, you can flaunt your new bikini!
There’s that. Stay cool and hydrated folks. Have fun and happy summer!
