10 Feelings When The College Semester Comes To An End

Like many other college students at this time of year, we have watched two seasons of "Gossip Girl" or "House of Cards" within four days, as a form of procrastination or rehabilitation, so this is highly relevant. We are starting to realize how our lives are so similar to those of characters in soap operas and dramas. Either that or we have become too addicted to such shows to discern fiction from reality. Anyway, here are 10 things that have caused you unnecessary (entertaining and stressful) drama in your life right around this time of the semester.

1. Housing.

Who is going to pull you in as a roommate for the upcoming school year? Who said they would pull you in and is now backing out? Who can you even trust these days? With whom can you form alliances? It seems housing issues can bring out the Frank Underwood in us.

2. Partying.

You have midterms, yet you cannot stop thinking about that party you wish you hadn't attended yesterday. That guy or girl you got to know real well (you know who I’m talking about), the songs you may have belted out while a little bit “tipsy?” Or perhaps, the regrettable decisions you made? Your thoughts are just too clouded, or maybe that's the Fireball talking.

3. Travel.

All you really want to do is be one of those millionaires on soap opera who can be whisked away from the tense college environment. You want to travel to Buenos Aires but know it is not in your budget. But if it is — when are you going to book your flight? Is now too early or too late? Will you do study abroad?

4. Make it or Break it.

Remember how you said two midterms ago that it’s okay, you’ve got the next midterm to do better on and improve yourself? Well guess what - now all you’ve got left is the third midterm and then the final. Your life is spiraling downwards (with the occasional glimmer of light). Will you succeed, or will you fail? These are the questions to ask. Stakes are high. Will your life have a happy ending, or will you end up like Walter White?

5. Planning the next 3 months of your life.

Internships. Prep courses. All of those things you were excited about a couple of months ago aren’t looking too exciting anymore. Reality is hitting you hard so much. You constantly think about how the semester is ending soon and you won’t have to get up for 8 a.m. classes anymore. Well that is until next semester ... and the next season.

6. Speaking of things ending: relationships.

It’s that beautiful time of year when things are starting to look up for you and your beau, but alas, you must part your ways for the summer time. It could all crash and burn you know - especially if your other half has a flame or two back home. Can you handle the anguish, the distress, the jealousy that all comes with it? Probably not. Don’t cry — that’s what Ben and Jerry’s and Tinder are for.

7. Summer.

Everyone is either thinking about basking in the sun or cooling off in the beach during this year of extreme weather. No one wants to be kept inside with nothing to do but read long texts and study chem notes. No one’s looking for that kind of chemistry.

8. Last Round of Midterms.

You have no clue what your final grade in the class is going to be until the very end of the semester after you hand in your last exam. The wait is never ending, the clock neither ticks nor tocks. You’re on edge.

9. Distractions and Sacrifice.

Food and Sleep: You are so engrossed in studying and work that you even sacrifice your showering and gym schedules. It seems you end up going to bed every night at 2 a.m. No, not because you are binge-watching Netflix, but because all of a sudden at the end of the semester you’ve realized you have responsibilities to fulfill. It’s a do or die moment — either finish or drown.

10. People Issues.

Although you may be in college, you keep hearing news back home about some tragedy — or the real tragedy is in your friend group and people are simply not letting you be. I mean honestly, even when you’ve got your headphones on, people don’t seem to get the message. Oh, you want to vent and tell me about your problems? Don’t care! I’ve got a ton of my own that I’m hoping will just poof away if I ignore them.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
