10 Truths All Stonehill Students Know To Be True
Stonehill College

1. The grass is always greener on the Stonehill side.

This is probably the most obvious point, but seriously. There is never a moment when the grass isn't the most saturated color of green that you've ever seen. You swear that out of the $55,000 tuition per year that at least $50,000 of it goes toward landscaping. And even if that rumor was true, it would be kind of worth it.

2. You're not a Stonehill student until you post a clock pic on Instagram.

Your Instagram newsfeed will be clogged with pictures of the clock at all times of the year, specifically during the beginning and end of the semester. Some of the most popular captions are "So glad to be back at the Hill" or "I DON'T WANNA GO HOME!"

3. Christmastime at Stonehill is the best time at Stonehill.

If you thought the campus couldn't get any prettier; you thought wrong. After Thanksgiving break, it's crunch time. With massive projects and finals looming in the distance, things can feel a little stressful. However, between holiday bingo, the anticipation of Christmas break, and the trees on campus being draped from head-to-toe with white Christmas lights, it really feels like the most wonderful time of the year.

4. Taco Tuesday is a weekly holiday.

You would think that we would get sick of tacos every single week, and yet every Tuesday, there is a line wrapping around the cafe filled with ravenous college students waiting to get their Mexican fix. While it isn't exactly Chipotle-grade, it gets the job done.

5. Patty in the Bakery is the nicest woman that you will ever meet.

She always greets you with the sweetest smile and always asks how things are going. You always know it's going to be a good day when Patty sneaks an extra cookie into your bakery bag. She's the real MVP.

6. You can always hear President Father Denning before you can see him.

While on any given day, you can usually find Father Denning wandering around campus asking students how their days are going (which is so awesome on its own), before you even get a glimpse of him, you can usually hear his thick, Cranston accent making its way onto campus. Like Father Denning would say, "At Stonehill we have a lot of haht."

7. Sledding down Donahue hill with cafeteria trays is a must during the winter.

Does it hurt your butt? Yes. Does the cafeteria staff hate it when we steal the trays? Yes. Is it safe? I'll get back to you on that one. Whether there is six inches or six feet of snow on the ground, you can always find students flying down Donahue hill with cafeteria trays and storage bin containers as their makeshift sleds. #InnovatorsOfTheFuture

8. A majority of the student body takes time out of their Friday night to play bingo.

I know we might sound like a bunch of 80-year-olds, but let me explain. When you have several hundred students competing for prizes like Apple TVs, Beats headphones, Red Sox tickets, and Keurig's, things get a little crazy. And if you win twice in one night? Going up to the front of the cafe to get your prize is more like doing the walk of shame. Cue incessant booing.

9. Whenever you tell someone that you go to Stonehill, they either say "What is Stonehill?" or "Oh, Stonehill! What a beautiful campus!"

Ah yes, the beauty of going to a small, New England, liberal arts college. While the majority of people always ask you "Where the heck is Stonehill?" (which slightly offends you) you always love it when you get someone who not only knows where Stonehill is but thinks it's a gorgeous campus. (Disclaimer: We already know).

10. Once a Skyhawk, always a Skyhawk. You'll never want to leave.

Whether it's the tight-knit community, the beautiful campus, the close relationships with professors, or even bingo, you know that Stonehill isn't just a place for you to get a degree, but a place that you get to call home.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
