10 Truths About Volkswagen Beetle Owners And Their Cars

On May 31st, 2015, I got my first car, which is a 2001 Volkswagen Beetle. The kid inside me squealed and cried. My dreams of owning a Volkswagen Beetle had finally come true! I even named my care, June Bug, just because. Here's a few things about us Volkswagen Beetle owners and our cars:

1. We're quirky individuals.

2. Our cars smell like old crayons.

If there is one thing I can tell you, it is that I do not like the smell of crayons one bit. Not even the use of many types of air fresheners takes away the aroma of Volkswagen's.

3. If we own a Volkswagen Beetle, it was probably our dream since we had our Barbie toy Beetle.

As a little girl, I had the yellow Volkswagen Beetle Barbie car for all of my Barbies. From then on, my obsession with Beetles progressed.

4. Our cars might be falling apart, but as long as we have a Beetle, we are okay with it.

I cannot even begin to tell you how many car parts on the inside that I am missing. It's true: my car is missing a few cup holders and some handles. However, I don't really care.

5. We have pride knowing that people punch each other at the sight of our cars.

This is the best part. We are essentially causing most fights between siblings because they said, "punch buggy, no punch back." and hit them. Best. Thing. Ever.

6. All Beetle Bugs are created equal (Convertible, Non-convertible, Vintage, New, etc.)

While I do favor the older models rather than the newly upgraded 2017 models, a Beetle is still a Beetle. There's still a part of me that wants one from the 1960's though.

7. The Beetle captures the Hippie/ Indie aesthetic.

It's a semi-circle on wheels and is utterly different from any other car on the road. Slap some flower power stickers and it is the essence of the 60's.

8. If you don't have a flower in the flower holder in the car, can you even consider yourself a true owner of a Volkswagen Beetle?

Come on now. It's there for a reason.

9. Most of us dream of having flower power stickers on our cars.

Who doesn't dream of putting hippie flowers all over your car? If my Barbie car had it, so will my real car.

10. Some of us also think about adding eye lashes as well.

One day, June Bug will have eyelashes and kill the roads with her classiness.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
