It's no surprise that Arizona is hot. In fact, I don't know how many different adjectives could even begin to describe the heat and the effect it can have. Every summer you always see those news stories about the hikers dying in the desert, and the newest records being broke.

I've provided below some tips I have learned for surviving Arizona and all things heat related. So you can live comfortable and stay cool in the oven we call Arizona.

1. Get a pool.

I don't know how one can live in a place so hot without any form of a pool to cool off and exercise in. It's really the only time you'll be able to be outside.

2. Buy lots and lots of Ice-cream (froyo if you want to be "healthy").

Another way to cool off. There's even a new low-calorie ice-cream you can indulge in without worrying about your bikini body (Halo Top Ice-Cream).

3. Forget the pants.

Dresses, skirts, flowy shorts, anything but jeans or shorts. They will chafe your legs and make you very uncomfortable. Just take my word for it.

4. Travel up north to escape the heat.

Travel to Flagstaff for a little change in weather. It's dramatically cooler due to the higher elevation.

5. Check to make sure the A/C is working pre-summer.

The last thing you want is to be without air conditioning in the middle of a drenching hot, sunny day. Double check that it's working because it is horrible to live in an un-conditioned house.

6. Carry oven mitts and a towel in your car at all times.

Metal or leather cars are horrible for Arizona weather. In risk of being burned, pack your car with the necessities.

7. Get a pool.

Again, in case you think it's a pointless investment; it's not. GET A POOL.

8. Forget the makeup.

Your makeup will melt off anyways. Plus you don't want to ruin your makeup while swimming in YOUR POOL.

9. Drink water. Please.

Don't be the person that doesn't and gets heat stroke. It's not fun.

10. Don't go outside.

It's probably for the better to just settle down in your air-conditioned house with Netflix and your dog.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
