Every college freshman experiences the dreaded homesickness, and believe it or not, some upperclassmen do as well. The transition to college is a huge step in one's life and brings on brand new challenges and experiences. College may be the first time you are away from your family, friends, and worst of all, pets, for a significant amount of time; for many, it can be an extremely overwhelming and unenjoyable time. However, there are some simple techniques and tips, which can be helpful in overcoming homesickness and falling in love with your school.

Ten tips for overcoming homesickness:

1. Get involved!

Join clubs, make friends, attend events etc. Find any way to get your mind off of home and the people you miss. Schools provide some incredible opportunities to meet new people and make new friends. Be sure to take advantage of these opportunities and force yourself to go outside of your comfort zone, you won't regret it!

2. Find pieces of home in your daily routine

Be sure to integrate small pieces of your home in your day-to-day schedule. Whether that means waking up at a certain time, eating a particular food, or talking to your best friend on a daily basis, any little piece of home can make each day brighter.

3. Talk to someone

On campuses all over the country, there are incredible resources available designed to help students in any way possible. Never be afraid to go to your school's counseling center or homesickness groups, they are great places to get advice and find likeminded people to confide in. Rely on your newly made friends as well. Chances are they are going through the same struggles and challenges and can provide stability and guidance during this time. I for one would have never made it through freshman year without the help of some incredible friends!

4. Talk regularly with friends and family from home

Just a simple text or quick phone call can really make your day. Most importantly, these conversations can be major confidence boosters and remind you of the endless love and support you have behind you. Never be afraid to take a minute and make a call home, chances are your parents and friends miss you just as much and a phone call make more than just your day a little better.

5. Share your favorite aspects of home with other students:

Every student loves talking about their home and doing so can be really helpful!

6. However, be sure not to obsess over home

Do not prohibit yourself from falling in love with school. Home is amazing; however, college is pretty incredible too and can be one of the greatest times of your life. Enjoy it!

7. Remember that almost every other student is homesick

You’re not alone! Almost every freshman deals with the feeling of homesickness and any upperclassmen would be lying if they told you they weren’t homesick themselves during those first couple months. Don't be afraid to express your feelings or feel frustrated, it's perfectly normal.

8. Have fun!

School is supposed to be a fun and enjoyable experience. Appreciate every day and take every opportunity you are presented with. Nothing makes time fly faster than having fun, so be sure to find what makes you happy and have fun doing it!

9. Be patient, give it time

School is only temporary; before you know it, you’ll be home again. However, in the meantime, be patient and try your best to adjust and make your school your home away from home. You'll be surprised, without realizing it, that you won’t want to leave!

10. Be courageous and brave

You can accomplish absolutely anything you want to! Make each day great and remember you are never alone. Be brave and be courageous in everything you do because you are amazing!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
