10 Tips For College Dorm Living

As August gets underway, many students are either preparing for their first year or going back to another year of college. Many colleges provide lists of what students should bring, going with the certain regulations that the schools follow. A lot of students follow there list thing-for-thing, because this is the only thing they know as to what to bring. Many students end up bringing too much of unnecessary items or overlook things they actually need. This article is to help students tackle dorm living without the need of getting everything in Bed Bath and Beyond.

1. DON'T BUY EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU GET TO SCHOOL

There are some things on your list that shouldn't be bought until you get to the actual room. You don't really know how much room you might have or if things will fit, like anything hanging over the doors. Wait until you get there so that you can see if things are even worth the money.

2. Invest In Under Bed Bins/Storage

You will not be wearing certain things all year round, so storing seasonal clothes when not in use will make more room for the clothes you do have. Also putting food and your other bedding/towel stuff under your bed will save space in your dorm.

3. Buy a Drying Rack For Clothes

There have been so many times where I have been caught in the rain and things are just soaking wet. Having a drying rack handy will allow you to air dry your things so that they don't sit in a heap and become smelly. Also, certain clothes you wash shouldn't be put in the dryer so this is the place to dry them.

4. Get A Lock Box

As you go away to school there are certain important things you should have with you such as social security number, insurance card, extra cash, etc. These things should be stored in a place with a lock and key so that they will not be stolen or lost.

5. Talk With Your Roommates and Share Things

It is best to share certain things with your roommate to save space and be more convenient in the dorm. Discuss who may bring a T.V. or you can share a refrigerator with them. There is a lot of other stuff that you can share that just have to be talked about with your roommate.

6. Eye Mask and Ear Plugs=HELL YES

There have been so many times where I go to bed early or am taking a nap and was woken up by my roommates due to loudness and turning on lights. Having these items will help you get much needed sleep without yelling at your roommates to settle down.

7. Always Have an Umbrella In Your Backpack

Guess what, rain happens at random times. Even if your weather app says it will be clear, you never know when it will rain. Always have one handy to avoid being drenched and sitting in class with wet clothes.

8. Invest In Good Headphones

Especially if you listen to music while doing work, having headphones to cancel out noise will make sure you stay focused and enjoy your tunes as well.

9. Have Your Bed Near An Outlet

This is just something you should already have but if something doesn't work out where you are near one, try and rearrange the room so that everyone is near one because your phones should be charged at all times.

10. K-Cups and a Must-Cup

When you have to stay up late and study, having a source of coffee is something that all kids need. Invest and share with roommates in a K-Cup Machine and split the price of the cups so that everyone always has their coffee.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
