When it comes down to it, moms are the ultimate superheroes. Mothers do everything for their daughters, whether we want them to or not. Of course, throughout our teenage years, we swear a million times that we won’t miss our mom once we’re off at college but, boy, were we wrong. Distance makes the heart grow fonder, and the more time we spend away from our moms, the more we realize that they are the best friends we will ever have. There are many moments when a mother-daughter relationship turns into a friendship.
1. When you stopped ignoring her advice and actually started asking for it.
Your mom becomes your go-to gal for advice once you're in college.
2. When you start to want to call her everyday instead of feeling obligated to.
Every time something interesting (or embarrassing, or completely irrelevant) happens, you need to call your mom and tell her about it.
3. When she stopped picking out clothes you hate and started wearing clothes you would wear.
All of a sudden, you become jealous of your moms wardrobe.
4. When you stop having secrets and instead start confessing everything to her, without fear of judgment.
You can literally tell her secrets that you can’t tell anyone, and you know for a fact that she’ll never say a word.
5. When you see something she’d like and you buy it for her, just because.
"Hmm, these socks with cheeseburgers on them remind me of my mom... I better buy them for her."
6. When staying in with your mom on a Saturday night no longer feels like you’re grounded, but like you’re hanging out with a girlfriend.
Saturday night movie marathons suddenly sound more appealing than getting dressed up and going out.
7. When going out to dinner with her becomes exciting and fun instead of obligatory.
Especially since restaurant food is a huge step above dining hall food, and you'll definitely be sharing dessert.
8. When it’s no longer awkward to swear in front of her.
In fact, she’ll probably agree with whatever it is you're talking about.
9. When you go home to visit, you’re just as excited to see your mom as you are to see friends you went to high school with.
10. When you start to realize that you’re just like her, but wouldn’t have it any other way, because she's actually kinda cool.
Moral of the story is, there are certain points in time when mother/daughter relationships transition to friendships, and it's pretty awesome. Always remember that friends will come and go, but moms are forever.
