Nine months flew by in the blink of an eye and now you’re wondering where it all went. It feels like it was just yesterday that your parents were helping you move in and now you are sitting in a pile of your stuff on the floor, trying to pack up your life for the next three months.
1. "Will my clothes be sad if I don’t take them home?”
Thinking logically, yeah, maybe you don’t need all your thick sweaters and boots for the summer, but how can you just abandon your clothes? Clothes have feelings too… right?
2. "It doesn’t all fit…. Now, what?”
After you finally narrow down your closet to what you think you need to “survive” this summer, you realize you have way too much to fit into the bags you have. Now you must reevaluate what you think you really “need” for this summer vacation.
3. "How did I accumulate so much stuff?”
How did I drive to college with one carload of stuff and end up with enough clothing to fully dress a small village? Where did all these t-shirts, sweatshirts, sweatpants, and dresses come from?
4. “What am I going to do with a room to myself?”
Wait, you mean I won’t have constant snoring or a drunken roommate stumbling in at 2 a.m?
5. “I’m going to be so lonely without my friends”
It was so easy to hang out with people whenever you wanted because they were right down the hall from you. Now you have to make actual plans when you want to hang out with people.
6. You will be stressed out of your mind
Where does everything go? How do I pack it up? Does this need bubble wrap? Can I even save this?
7. You reach a breaking point
After hours of taking everything down off the walls and strategically placing them in coordinated boxes, you will decide to dance to “Summer Hits of the 2000’s” on Pandora in your underwear and build a fort out the remaining empty boxes.
8. Realizing you are leaving your “home”
A part of you feels like you are moving away from your childhood home. Afterall, some very memorable moments happened in this small room over the past nine months.
9. “I don’t want to leave”
Yes, you will cry. Not just on move out day either, but you will start crying the week before when it finally starts to hit you that you are leaving.
10. But then you remember you are going to be eating real food and sleeping in your bed.
Nothing really beats mom’s cooking and cuddling with your dog at night.
