During finals week, it was all you could think of: Being under a warm, cozy blanket, snuggled up to a pet and watching hours of Netflix with little worries about homework or academic engagement. As we embark further into January, don't lie; you have thought about wanting to go back to the hectic life of college once or twice. After a while, being home becomes annoying and redundant for you, and you are reminded of why you moved to college in the first place (no hate to those who commute). If you have had at least one or more of these thoughts listed, I think it is your time to go back.
1. I left ______ in my dorm... how will I survive?!
We all have realized either going through our wardrobe of sweat pants and ugly sweaters that we left a clothing item or some item of value back at our college home. Packing is always hard for you only have a small amount of space to fill with all the new treasures you have acquired in college. Some of you had to pay luggage fees or reserve space for your items so leaving some items behind was a tough decision you had to make. I left my iPad in the rush of packing. My poor iPad is now sitting on my desk with a dead battery waiting for me to charge it.
2. *wakes up* Oh, I'm not doing anything today so... *falls back to sleep*
If you haven't maxed out at least once or twice on your hours of sleep then you are a special kind of human being. Sleeping the days away has become a daily occurrence in my schedule and I have no shame. A little beauty rest doesn't hurt anyone.
3. TINDER GAME BACK HOME WEAK
Maybe back at college you procrastinated with the hookup/dating app tinder. At least back there you had a good selection of locals and other college students from neighboring schools. Back home.... it is the same old same old. Left swiping your quarter back and that one guy with the stamp collection has been the only excitement you have had on the app all break.
4. I miss my roommate.
With missing your campus comes missing the other human being you had to share a space with for four months. Whether you have been texting all break long or Skyping, you realize you miss them dearly. Going from having someone constantly in your room to being all alone is a real struggle.
5. Wow, maybe I didn't have that many friends back in high school.
When it comes time to actually being social you realize there aren't many options. Many of the people who you assumed were your "friends" only dealt with you because they had to. Many of the people you grew up with lead different lives and wish to not associate with you. You then discover that you and these "friends" were never close enough to have a friendship beyond the doors of grade school.
6. Do I really want to order my textbooks today?
As break progresses the reality of returning to daily college life becomes real. With the spring semester being right around the corner, the realization of ordering textbooks becomes a pressing issue. Now, you could turn to your school's Facebook page blowing up everyone's notifications asking for any alum's of your future classes to spare you theirs or take to the inter-webs for the best deal on your soon-to-be expensive night stand.
7. Watching this much Netflix has to be illegal somewhere.
Would you like to continue watching "......"
YES NETFLIX! DO NOT JUDGE MY LIFESTYLE.
8. I'm bored, maybe I should eat some more food...again.
Having to not worry about what the mess hall is serving has been something you have grown comfortable with at home. Making frequent trips to the fridge has become one of the many activities you indulge in this break.
9. When did I start liking the Kardashians?
The family is lurking all over social media and of course you spend hours on your phone/laptop everyday. They slide into your Instagram discovery feed and on your Facebook timeline like a sparkly disease. You might have even caught yourself binge watching Keeping Up With the Kardashians but, do you truly like them? Where did this fascination come from?
10. I just want to go back. :(
You miss your home away from home. Being back at your hometown where you can sleep, eat and Netflix your days away seems amazing from the finals week perspective. After the holidays, you realize you have no purpose here. You belong back at your dorm with your friends and enemies trying to work towards a degree and figure out how much you can procrastinate that term paper. Break has been fun and all but you cannot wait to get back to the stresses and fun times college has to offer for you.
