10 Thoughts Going Into Senior Year
Say Anything Blog

1. Wait, I'm a Senior?

I feel like just yesterday I moved into my freshman year and somehow I'm only 9 months away from being on my own and facing the real world. When did this happen? I guess this is finally my time to be able to walk around campus like I own the place.

2. How am I supposed to prep for my future career? I can’t even master meal prepping.

We've all been told since like the 8th grade to start preparing for our future careers. I currently don't know what my future job will be so how am I supposed to get ready for it? I'm hoping a job will just jump out at me soon enough.

3. OK…I tell myself every semester I won’t procrastinate. I’ll accept now that that's a lie.

Procrastination has been my best friend through college. I hate to say it but I operate better under pressure so why keep lying to myself? I'll just keep doing my thing.

4. I’ll still see all my friends once I graduate, right?

I have made some of my best friends in college and couldn't imagine doing life without them. I would love if I could still meet them in our kitchen at one in the morning to eat a snack or make random shopping trips in the middle of the day like we do now.

5. So after college, can I still take as many naps and watch as much Netflix as I do now?

Naps. I feel truly blessed when I get to take a nap during the weekday. With my last year of school, it is my goal to take as many naps as I can while I juggle work, school, clubs, and a social life. Netflix and naps are just too important.

6. I am pretty excited about making some actual money.

I'm not gonna lie, when I start making real money will be an exciting and dangerous time in my life. My online shopping and random trips to Sephora may increase and I can't wait for it.

7. I guess this is my last year of wearing t-shirts everyday.

One of my favorite parts about college is that it is perfectly acceptable to show up in a t-shirt and running shorts to class. I would be lying if I said I never hopped out of bed and rolled onto class without changing my outfit. And did anyone ever notice? Nope.

8. Everyone, stop pressuring me to figure my life out.

Every senior in college can relate to the paralyzing moment during every conversation when people ask, "so what are you going to do after you graduate...do you have a job lined up?" I could find an awesome job, I could go get married, I could forget about the real world and go live on a beach somewhere. I'll let you know when I do.

9. I'm grown up...

I'm a senior in college and I still like knowing that my mom and dad are always there to help me. I'm still in my phase of obsessing over puppies and liking to sing along to Disney. Yes, I'm grown up but I don't always feel like a grown up.

10. I’m still proud of myself for making it this far.

We are so close! AH. Even after all these crazy, unsure thoughts, I am still so grateful for the opportunity to further my education. I'm grateful for all the sleepless nights, freakout moments of not having a scantron on test day, and drinking way too much coffee to make it through the days. Pursuing a degree is one of the most special opportunities and this year is going to fly by.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
