Shopping plays a huge role in society these days. It's almost as if new stores are opening on each block -- well, because they are. On Tuesday, August 16th, 2016, a new mall by the World Trade Center located in New York City has opened up. A few days later on Saturday, August 20th, 2016, I went to go visit and shop at this new mall. It's quite the experience, and I'd like to tell you my thoughts on it.
1. The entrance to the mall is modern, beautiful, and like no other mall entrance.
But really though, what other mall has a view of the World Trade Center right in back of its main building? The main building is called the oculus and also serves as an entrance for some of New York City's subways in addition to some PATH trains.
2. The free wifi is on point.
But really though, who doesn't love free and fast wifi? This new mall has such amazing free wifi that I wouldn't mind coming here more often just for the wifi. The connection sticks with your device regardless of what part of the mall you're in, which makes posting to Instagram or checking your email so much easier.
3. It'd be nice if more of the stores were ready to shop in prior to the mall opening.
My name is Liz and I enjoy shopping. Some of my favorite stores in the mall such as Victoria's Secret and Starbucks (sorry I'm basic) were not open when I went and are supposedly going to be opened up later on in the year. I would've loved to smell some of Victoria's Secret's fragrances and then order a venti cool lime refresher with lemonade from Starbucks. While these stores were not around, at least I can say that I got to look in the mall's Kate Spade store -- and let me tell you, it's gorgeous.
4. After walking around with the humidity, I appreciate that the mall has good air conditioning.
If you hate the hot, sticky weather like me and would prefer to be a tad bit cold, then you'd be glad to hear that the mall has a nice cold air conditioning system that made me feel as if I was in the North Pole. I was a little cold, but I'd rather be cold than sweating.
5. I wish some of the stores were not so spread out from one another.
When I went to the mall, I really wanted to go to the new Eataly. Honestly, I was annoyed that it wasn't in the main building, leaving me to have to go out of the oculus and in the street to get to it. The area by the World Trade Center is already crowded, and I'm not happy that I'd have to go through an even bigger crowd thanks to the mall to get to my destination.
6. I'm a fan of the passageway to Brookfield Place.
For those of you that want more of an upscale shopping area with a big food court, free events, and free wifi without walking through the streets, then you might also want to check out Brookfield Place. The mall in the World Trade Center has an underground passageway with nice escalators that will take you from the mall to Brookfield Place in one piece without having to walk in the streets with the big crowds, which is always something nice to avoid if possible.
7. It's kind of nice that there are multiple levels to shop, view, and walk around on.
I hate it when stores are practically crammed next to one another. I get that it's helpful in a sense, but then again, I don't want to have to be pushing through a big crowd of people to get from one store to the next store.
8. I wish there were more events that would happen at the mall each week.
9. It would've been nice if the mall had some music playing on each floor.
Walking around the mall in silence can get a little boring. It'd be nice if there was something to listen to as I walk around so I wouldn't feel the need to bring my headphones with me.
10. I wish the mall had some kiosks.
Most malls have some form of kiosks, so it shocked me that this mall didn't have any of them. I would've liked to look at what each kiosk had to offer so I wouldn't feel obligated to walk around like a lost soul.
