11 Thoughts When Your Older Sibling Moves Out
Jordan McBride

Man being the youngest child can sometimes be such a drag. But when our older siblings move away there are just some thoughts that most of us younger siblings share. We hate to see them leave, but once they're gone we get used to living a luxurious life as an “only” child.

1. No more sharing the bathroom

You can use the bathroom whenever you want and you can spend all the time you want getting ready in the morning because no one else uses your bathroom anymore!

2. The food is finally all for me!

Your mom spends $200+ on food each week for four people, and somehow it all disappears as soon as it comes through the front door. Where is it you ask? It is stock piled in your brother’s room. Now that he is gone it looks like the pantry is always full.

3. Wait--I have to deal with my parents alone now.

Your partner in crime is finally gone and you have to deal with your parents alone now. It’s just not the same without your sibling being there to have your back or to pull pranks on your parents.

4. I can watch whatever I want on the T.V.

You no longer have to watch the History Channel or HGTV. Your T.V. freedom has finally come, except for when your parents randomly decide to watch their shows in the living room.

5. Finally, I get all the attention of my parents

Although your partner in crime is gone, you also get the benefit of being an only child for once. You quickly become the center of attention. The only down side is that you also get in trouble more often since they no longer have to worry about two or more kids.

6. I don’t have anyone to annoy any more

Being the younger sibling is so great, you can be immature and no one really cares. You can mess with your older sibling(s) as much as you want and never really get in trouble. But now there is no one to mess with. Just don’t make the mistake of trying to mess with your parents.

7. It’s so hard being an only child now--I’m so bored

There’s no one to play outside with anymore. Or play video games with. It’s hard going from having someone constantly there to having no one at all. You get lonely and just end up watching a lot of Netflix because there is no one to play games with anymore.

8. There will always be hot water in the shower.

Why is it that every time your sibling steps in the shower that they two hours just to bathe? They probably don’t, but it always feels like it. For my brother, this is so true. He will stay in the shower till it runs out of hot water.

9. No more random socks in the bonus room.

I can’t tell you how many times I have found random socks in our living room. I don’t know how, but there is always one underneath the couch. Maybe they are clean, maybe they are dirty, we will never really know for sure.

10. Man, I really miss him/her.

When it comes down to it, you really miss your siblings. It just isn’t the same without them there. You really question what you will do without them.

11. But when they finally come back home

It's just like they never left. You have definitely learned to appreciate them much more now that they have moved away. It is always a celebration when they come home, even if it is only two or three times per year.

While us younger siblings are sometimes hard to deal with, we truly do love our older siblings so much. We really respect you and look up to you. Personally, I hope to find someone as great as my brother to marry one day. He is my inspiration and I don’t know anyone that I love more than him. He is my best friend and I am so happy that he has been by my side through everything.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
