We all have those people, ones we aren't that close with but we know well enough to hang out with, that love to tell everyone their dreams. I'm not talking inspiring Martin Luther King Jr dreams or dreams that can be included in the "goals and desires" section of their lives. No, these are their literal nighttime unconscious mind dreams. It's not that sometimes people don't have interesting dreams, but these are the people who keep talking about their family you don't know and the weird things they did in his or her dream. And here's what is going through all of our minds during this ordeal:
1. Okay, maybe it'll be short. One of those dreams with a weird beginning but they just can't remember the rest.
2. Wait what? That's definitely in a movie. What movie was that in? I'm so positive they took that from a movie and are trying to pass it off as part of their dream! Terminator? No. Oceans? No. Whatever, it's for sure from a movie.
3. Seems like they are filling in the cracks with made up things.
4. Oh my gosh, how is this still going on?! This dream would take the entire night to happen.
5. What if I'm nearby later and they tell this dream to someone else? I cannot listen to this dream twice. Shoot, I stopped paying attention. "Uh huh" "Oh woah, no way, that's so weird."
6. Okay, now I know they are lying. No one on planet earth remembers this much of their dreams. Not to mention if this is actually happening in their dream they need help. Don't dream tells desires or something? This dude has some weird desires.
7. I wonder how many people have had to listen to this. Is this like their party story? Is this a dream they had like a week ago? Is this a like last night sort of thing? Or was this the one time they had like a really long dream and now they just tell it to everyone all the time to get through get togethers?
8. I cannot wait to walk away and start another conversation with anyone else when this is over. If it's ever over. Maybe this is all a dream.
9. That would be the most boring dream. Me, sitting at a party listening to someone else's dream. Sort of inception, sort of the most boring dream that could ever happen. Okay, no I remember waking up this morning. This is real life. I am just this bored.
10. It's over. I survived. And I did it all the while seeming interested. That's incredible. I'm incredible.
It might seem rude, and of course, when you tell a dream you expect people to be interested, intrigued even. Let's all be honest. Unless it's a very close friend, we don't care about anyone else's dreams. Not only do they not apply to us, they literally did not happen in reality. So next time you'd like to tell someone else your dream... Stop. Think to yourself. Would I want to hear this dream? Is it too long?
