Our roommates are like our siblings away from home — except you don’t pull each other’s hair and threaten to "tell mommy” about everything they do. They pick us up when we're down and are always there for us, because honestly, where else are they going to go?
Sometimes the everyday things our roommates do for us go unnoticed, and its not until we’re home from college that we realize how much we miss their constant company.
Here are 10 things you should thank your roommate for right now:
1. Listening to me complain about everything under the sun.
Literally, everything. Even if you don’t know the people I’m complaining about, you still listen and try to understand. You’re my personal therapist and I could never repay you for all the times you listened to my stories starting with, “OMG, can I tell you what so-and-so said at lunch today?"
2. Going on late-night food runs.
You’re the only person that I can literally drag
out of bed when I’m craving a late-night classic. Thanks for always letting me
convince you that you really do need that chocolate chip muffin and vanilla
peanut butter smoothie.
3. Making me go to the gym after late-night food
runs.
You’re great at convincing me that the fried egg
sandwich I had last night went straight to my hips, and I need to hit the gym
ASAP. Thanks for the honesty, roomie. My thighs will thank you.
4. Letting me watch Food Network (sometimes).
I feel seriously honored when you throw the remote over and let me turn on "Giada at Home" at 4 p.m. I know how much you love your "Dr. Phil."
5. Watching Nicholas Sparks movies with me on a Sunday when I’m too hungover for human contact.
Because who doesn’t love "The Notebook" on a lazy day.
6. Not talking to me on a Sunday when I’m too hungover for human contact.
Thanks for knowing that I literally can’t even deal on these days. Turn the TV up and keep your voice low.
7. Trying to be quiet when you come back from the bars, and I’m sleeping.
You’re usually loud AF, and I hate you at the time, but I know you try to be as quiet as possible, which isn’t easy for you.
8. Coming to pick me up from a party, even when you’re comfy.
For this, you seriously rock. Bonus points if you stop for food!!
9. Being (sometimes brutally) honest about what I’m wearing.
Because of you, I know I’ll never go out looking stupid. This is the only time I’ll appreciate the statement, “I’m not a fan."
10. Putting up with me.
I give you serious props for not killing me. Someone should give you an award for that or a lifetime supply of boxed wine. You deserve it.
