10 Things I Wish I Could Do

The world is full of talented people. (That includes you.) I’m friends with some super gifted individuals, and I even have some talents myself. And, don’t get me wrong, I’m happy with my talents and I’m sure there are people out there who wish they could do what I do. But there are quite a few things that I cannot do but would very much like to be able to. Here’s a little list of 10 things that I wish I could do:

1. A perfect wing on my eyeliner.

OK, so sometimes I get that perfect little wing, but it’s usually only on one eye, and it happens very rarely.

2. Flawlessly apply my lipstick.

First things first, this list isn’t only going to be about makeup, but I really wish I could do this. I don’t know how people put on dark red lipstick perfectly and effortlessly. Mine usually goes off of my lips, and then I have to fix it, and then I have a red smudge on my mouth and it’s a disaster.

3. Paint.

I’ve tried so many times to paint. I think it is one of the coolest talents. I want to be able to sit in front of a canvas and produce something that doesn’t look like a child went crazy with the finger paint.

4. Be fluent in a language besides English.

Obviously this is very possible. However, right now my life is focused on the English language. (It happens to be my major.) Plus, I took three semesters of French in high school, but I can only remember how to tell you my name and ask how you are.

5. Wake up at a decent time and not be tired.

Trust me, this is a talent. Let’s just leave this at: I have a sleeping problem. Oops.

6. Debate without crying.

I have friends who are really talented debaters and can argue for almost anything. But when I debate, well, I get really emotional and usually end up crying. Which isn’t weird if you know me; I’m just a really emotional person and I cry when I get frustrated. (And when I’m really happy, sad, laughing really hard, tired, hungry, eat really good food, etc.)

7. Walk perfectly in high heels.

I’m pretty sure there’s not a person on earth who can walk perfectly in heels, but some do better than others. I usually do pretty well, but I have the occasional “trip and then awkwardly try not to fall” situation. I’ll just blame it on my being so tall. Yeah, that’s why.

8. Complex mathematical equations.

I consider this a talent, just like some might consider writing a talent. I’ve never been very good at math, but I really wish I was. I feel like that would make me a more well-rounded person.

9. Solve a Rubik’s cube.

Apparently it’s easy to figure out, but I don’t think so. I’ve tried and I’ve been shown, but I cannot seem to figure it out. I think it’s the coolest thing!

10. Magic.

I have a friend who does magic and it amazes me every time. I think it’s fascinating, mostly because I don’t know how to do it.

Maybe one day I'll figure these things out.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
