Not every day is perfect, and there is such a thing as a bad day -- everyone has them. Your day starts out with one or two things going wrong and soon enough it seems like your entire world is collapsing on you. Things that usually don't bother you for some reason drive you insane and for the remainder of the day you are waiting for the next catastrophe to happen.
The next time you have a bad day, which will happen, keep these things in mind.
1. You have so many best days ahead of you.
When you are having a bad day, it's easy to convince yourself that nothing is good in life anymore. But this is just not true. There are so many days ahead of you that you have no idea where you will be or who you will be with. I guarantee you, a great day is just around the corner. We just have to get through the bad to get to the good.
2. For everyone one person out there who completely sucks, there's a solid chance that there are 10 good ones.
If you're anything like me, you always see the good in people even if others tell you to stay away from said person. We are particularly prone to filtering out the positive input in our life and focusing on the negative. We tend to forget that there are many less sucky people in this world than good people. That friend who is listening to you vent about your bad day is just one of those ten good ones for that one girl/guy who ruined your day.
3. Negative emotions are only visitors.
Just because you are in a bad mood today, does not mean you are going to be in a bad mood permanently. Who you are is not defined by how you feel in that particular instant, rather, who you are is defined by how you take those bad emotions and move on in life and enjoy the happiness around you.
4. Mistakes are meant for learning.
Nobody in life is perfect, everybody makes mistakes and those mistakes only make you stronger. When you mess up it means that you are trying and that's a lot more than some people can say. Some people only do what they know they can do well; however, these are the people who won't improve themselves. Life is about taking risks and learning from them.
5. What other people think of you isn't important.
I am definitely a victim of caring what other people think of me, however, this is not good. For some reason we have been conditioned to care how other people judge us. The only thing that should matter is how you think of yourself. Do something or be something that makes you happy, don't do it just because it will make someone else happy.
6. I guarantee you, someone out there is looking up to you.
Have you ever worked with younger kids, well, I guarantee you -- they admired you. I recently worked at an overnight camp and it wasn't until that summer that I realized that little kids want to be like anybody older than them. Just remember, you want them to see you as a happy human who is enjoying life instead of someone who is having a bad day because of something as small as waking up late for class.
7. You most likely won't remember this day in a year, let alone in a month.
The problems you are having today will be nothing more than a distant memory in a few short weeks. So many good things will happen to you, that the one bad day you had will just fade away.
8. Without hard times, we wouldn't appreciate the good times.
If nothing bad happened in life, we wouldn't be thankful for all the good days. We sometimes need to see the bad to recognize the good.
9. You are beautiful.
Whether you believe it or not, you are beautiful both inside and out. You may not see it today, but just remember that someone out there loves you and thinks you are beautiful.
10. This day will pass.
Sometimes things have to be bad before they can be good. Who knows, maybe tomorrow you will have the best day of your life. Just remember there are only 24 hours in a day and one set of bad 24 hours does not mean you will have a bad life.
No bad day is worth dwelling on. In the wise words of Tami Taylor "Well, you're gonna win or you're gonna lose. Either way, the sun's still gonna come up tomorrow morning."
