Compared to a high school student, college students have much more time on their hands to do whatever they please. You get to make your own class schedule, decide what extracurricular activities you want to participate in (if any), and choose which classes you want to take. Therefore, you decide how much free time you have in college and if you're like most other college students, that means a lot of it. It's very easy to get bored in college but it is even easier to entertain yourself. Here are the top ten things to do in college to keep yourself entertained:

1. Take a nap

Although this activity actually seems kind of boring, taking a power nap in between classes is very useful. Staying up late at night seems to be inevitable and waking up to go to class, especially when there is no one there to order you to do so, is extremely difficult. Sleep is something no college student takes for granted, so take advantage of your free time and take a nap when you can, you won't regret it.

2. Netflix

Netflix is arguably one of the greatest inventions that most (if not all) college students use in their day to day activities. Netflix contains everything you need to keep yourself entertained for hours, from TV series to movies, you're bound to find something that appeals to your liking. When boredom seeps into your life, just pull out your laptop and open up Netflix. For those who don't have an account, try asking your friends for theirs. Besides, isn't that what friends are for?

3. Grab a bite at the dining hall

All college campuses have a location that provides food services for their students. One of the best things to do when you get bored is to grab a friend and grab a snack. For those who can't cook for themselves yet, the dining hall offers a variety of already cooked food choices ready to be consumed. These dining halls contain everything from breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even desserts. So when you're bored and have nothing to do, just grab a snack. Everyone loves food, everyone!

4. Go workout

Having a meal plan at college means food, a lot of it. Combine an unlimited amount of food with a lot of downtime and a lot of college students start to develop a sedentary lifestyle. Therefore, to stop ourselves from putting on unwanted weight, working out is a must. You'll get bored a lot in college, so bored that you might even consider working out a couple of times a week. So go ahead and get bored! Just make sure that you hit the gym a couple of times a week to keep yourself busy.

5. Join an extracurricular activity

College offers students a vast amount of extracurricular activities to partake in. From sports teams to the chess club, and even a Pokemon club, you're likely to find something that catches your interest. Just be open and ask around. Extracurricular activities are, by far, one of the easiest ways to keep yourself busy and entertained. It's also a great way to meet new people and make friends.

6. Go out with some friends

Although most college students live on-campus, that doesn't mean you're locked in and have to stay there forever. When you get bored, plan ahead and ask some friends to go out. Go out to grab some food, go to the movies, or even shopping. This is going to take some money so I wouldn't recommend doing it every day, unless, of course, you can afford it. Besides, it's always good to get away from the campus sometimes.

7. Clean Your Room

Living on a college campus means having your own room. Although you share it with a roommate or two, you still have your own side to take care of and trust me, your room can never be too clean. So when you're bored, try cleaning up a bit. Make your bed, organize your closet, throw away your trash, anything to make your side of the room look a little cleaner.

8. Do your laundry

Living independently means doing your own clothes. College students have a never-ending cycle of clean and dirty clothes. You can never really have too many clean clothes so make sure you do your laundry often. Dirty laundry can also leave a bad smell in the room so I recommend doing laundry once every week. However, it varies for everyone so just make sure you do your laundry enough times so that you don't run out of clean underwear.

9. Decorate your room

Having your own room also means that you can get as creative with your space as you want to. No one likes a boring room, so feel free to make it your own and add your own type of style to it. Put up posters, pictures, paintings, add anything you want to.This allows you to express yourself and make your space as comfortable and as appealing to your liking as possible.

10. Take a shower

Taking a shower is a necessity in college, you never ever want to be dirty. Walking around a huge college campus can make you a bit sweaty, so take good care of your hygiene and get a daily shower in whenever you can. So when you're bored, hop in the shower and clean yourself.

11. Explore the surrounding area outside your campus

As I've stated before, you're not entitled to stay on your college campus forever. The surrounding area or city of your college may have some interesting places to hang out. So when you're bored, grab some buddies and go explore! You'll probably find some cool hangout spots.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
