10 Things to Do Before Summer Starts

Get everything done before it's time to have fun!

10 Things to Do Before Summer Starts
NY Times

Summer is quickly approaching. As I am writing this, the temperature high for New York is almost 80 degrees. Almost everyone I know is pumped about summer, because summer is all about doing stuff. It's a real pain to have leftover tasks on your to-do list when you could be out doing stuff. You could be going to the pool, to the beach, for a hike, to a party, to a concert/festival, or if you're like me, you could be going to CVS to pick up a new bottle of SPH 100. Be prepared in advance with these tips.

1. Take advantage of those last few chilly days and nights to wear your favorite cold weather items.

Have a blanket scarf you really love? Does that coat look great on you? Did you pay an exuberant amount for winter boots that you haven't worn nearly enough? Hurry up and get your last few wears in before it's too late.

2. Eat all of your soup.

It's a personal pet peeve of mine when people eat soup when it's hot out. During the spring and fall when it's a little warm, soup is still okay because some soups are just that good. Don't waste those cans in the back of your pantry!

3. Stay inside all day without feeling bad about it.

Like I said before, summer is the time to go out and do stuff! While being a hermit is accepted and often applauded during the colder months, it's frowned upon over the summer.

4. Binge watch whatever show you need to.

With the exception of OITNB coming out in June, now is the perfect time to binge watch all your faves on Netflix! Or "Hulu," if you're one of those people. Your precious summer time shouldn't be spend watching six straight hours of "Breaking Bad," because you really need to go out and do stuff. Sensing a theme here?

5. Sit next to your fireplace, space heater, or radiator with a hot mug of hot chocolate.

If you share my unpopular opinion and aren't into hot chocolate, make a nice cup o' joe or tea. Get one more use out of your heating unit before you never want it to be hot again.

6. Finish your spring cleaning.

I hate cleaning my room and my car, but it sure feels nice to have a clean room and a clean car. Summer is also a great time to entertain or take a trip. You don't have to go full Danny Tanner when cleaning, just make sure you can see the floor and nothing smells like garbage.

7. Lose those last few pounds...or don't

I'm a big believer that every body is a beach body. I advise you to do whatever you want to feel good about yourself. Whether that means working out a little more, eating a little healthier, or doing nothing at all, be my guest.

8. Go shopping.

There is always a new style or color trending. Now is the time to update your summer wardrobe. Get some new pieces that you feel great wearing! If you're not into trends, replace those shorts that no longer fit you or that bikini bottom that's too pilled on the butt to wear in public.

9. Ask work for vacation days.

Do not make the mistake of forgetting to take time off for the 4th of July, or that family barbecue your mom will kill you for missing. The earlier you ask for time off from work, the better!

10. Save money.

You know how I've been talking about summer being the time to do stuff? Stuff gets expensive. Save up your pocket change or put aside a little extra cash for outings, shows, gas, and most importantly–food.

I wish you all the fun in the sun! Remember to always take safety precautions; aka wear bug spray and sun screen.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
