As most people in the modern world, we all know that our lives are usually hurried, and there’s never enough time to do what we want. With work, school, family, and other activities, we hardly have time to take care of ourselves. Even though we survive most of the time, it’s important that we learn how to live. Our lives are short, so why not enjoy our years and be thankful for them?
Here are 10 things to be grateful for.
1. Be thankful for the time you have for yourself
As much as responsibilities demand our time, it’s important to appreciate the time that we have for ourselves. It’s always beneficial to take at least an hour to just relax and be comfortable without anything in mind. With that little time, we can read a good book and have a cup of tea. And doing this while cuddling with pets never hurt!
2. Give thanks for your family
I can’t begin to stress how important this is. Personally, I owe a lot to my parents. They have supported me throughout my college years and they continue to support me. Their sacrifices have contributed to my success, and for that I am eternally grateful. While life can get crazy once in awhile, take a moment to step back and call your parents just to express how much you love them.
3. And, of course, your friends
Between fooling around and causing trouble, it’s necessary to realize what a blessing friends are in our lives. Through the good and bad decisions, they were always there for us. Through breakdowns, fights, insecurities, breakups, and so on, in the end, they're still there.
4. Be thankful for your education
School isn’t a favorite topic for most, but it’s important to recognize that without education, we wouldn’t get too far in the world. There are millions of people who don’t even know how to read or write. They wish to just learn basic words and books.
Meanwhile, we might take our education for granted and we might not appreciate how important it is. So at some point in the day, put your phone down, look at your teacher, and just take a moment to think how blessed we are to have the education we have gotten.
5. Even be thankful from the breakups you’ve had
I know this is a weird thing to say, but hear me out. Many times, at the end of a relationship and after the breakup, we tend to learn more about ourselves than at any other time. We learn how strong we are for overcoming heartbreak. We learn that we can be independent and that we have our own lives. Most of all, we learn how we can become better people for ourselves and others.
6. Also be thankful for the hardships
As I said before, our hardships and struggles can be terrible. However, when we succeed, we become better than we were before. These moments don't define who we are, but the experiences make us who we are. We become smarter and wiser.
7. Be grateful for those wonderful college memories
Now is the time in our lives where we make the memories that we will remember for a lifetime. These memories are the stories that we will one day tell our grandchildren. Once we have more responsibilities, life changes radically, and different memories are formed. For now, it’s a good idea to make as many memories as possible while we’re young and able.
8. Take time to cherish the small things in life
From watching the sunset on a warm summer day or lying under the stars at night, take time to cherish those moments. They are rare and, most of all, amazing.
9. Give thanks for your pets
They make us happy, and they're always there for us to cuddle and cheer us up.
10. Finally, give thanks for the life you have
Sometimes, we get carried away and think that our life is terrible. In reality, there are people who have it worse than us. Just give thanks for the life you're leading. Yes, there are problems and bad situations, but life gets better, no matter what happens.
