Mother's Day has come to a close and with it, hundreds of thousands of Mother's Day cards were read and cherished, one of those cards being the card I gave to my own mother. This card I chose was perfect! This specific card, out of the other 80 cards on the shelf, really spoke to me, and had perfectly put into words how I felt about my mother. Or so I thought. I remember picking out the perfect card like it was yesterday.
The hour I spent at Target reading and rereading cards, trying to find the perfect one and then, it finally happened! I picked up a beautiful pink and silver card. This was the one. I can’t tell you word for word what this card said, but the gist of it went something like this “Thank you for always believing in me.Thank you for everything you have done and continue to do for me.”
Of course, the greeting card company used sappy words, but that's about it. Was this card the perfect card for my mother? The woman who birthed me and has given me everything I needed to live over the past 21 years? This is the thanks I thought she deserved?! Looking back on this so-called perfect card, I've realized two things. One, next time, I should make my own card and two, a greeting card can't put into words a number of thanks my mom deserves. Here are 10 things my mom, and all the other moms out there, deserve thanks for, and not just on their special day, but every single day!
1. Mom, thank you for drying the thousands of teardrops that have fallen from my cheeks.
Whether they be due to scraped knees, stupid boys, stress or so on, you were always there to wipe the sadness from my eyes.
2. Mom, thank you for being strict with me growing up.
Even though I hated it at the time. I understand now that my curfew was for my own safety and that that girl's house I wanted to sleep over at all the time was really a bad idea, since her parents were never home.
3. Mom, thank you for listening to me vent about every issue I have ever had EVER!
From whining about 2nd grade crushes to high school heartbreaks, you always were there with an open ear to listen and give a warm hug when needed.
4. Mom, thank you for teaching me how to be a strong confident woman.
A woman who can stand with her head held high no matter what. You know, the kind of woman that you are.
5. Mom, thank you for never laughing at me, even though you've seen me fall down more times than any other human has.
Scratch that, thank you for never judging me because let's face it, you can't help but laugh.
6. Mom, thank you for teaching me what true love really is.
The love that's shared between our entire family is indescribable.
7. Mom, thank you for giving me the stepping stones I need to succeed.
From 12 years of private school to four years of college, my education has been anything but cheap. Thank you for putting my future first, even though sometimes that meant coming before your own future.
8. Mom, thank you for being the “cool mom” that all my friends adored!
My middle school-self really enjoyed that.
9. Mom, thank you for picking up the pieces of my broken dreams and helping me shape them again.
10. Mom, thank you for inspiring me to be the best that I can be.
This needs no explanation, because you have been so inspiring to me since day one.
