It's that time of year again. You've packed up every sign of living in your dorm room into a multitude of plastic bins, turned in your keys, and are about ready to squeeze into your car amongst the contents of your life for the past eight months. It seems as though everything you love is headed home with you, all except for one thing--many of your closest friends.
If you're like me, my university is located eight hours away from where I live. Coming home is like unplugging from one daily routine and exchanging it for another one that in many ways is very different. The central hub of this routine revolves around my best friends at school, and most of them live just as far away--if not farther--from me and our university.
Here are just a few of the things you know all too well if your best friends all live extremely far away from you.
1.) You have a HUGE group chat, and it is active 24/7...
If it's midnight in Chicago, it's only 10:00 in California or Seattle. The night is still young for plenty of weird music videos, memes, and puns for your west coast BFF's.
2.) The fact that you can video-chat with multiple people on Skype has become your saving grace...
On the rare occasions that everyone is available to connect to the interwebs at the same time, it's like you never even left.
3.) And chatting it up with their parents to see how they're doing always happens....
They were kind enough to send you cookies and always asked how you were doing when your friends called them at school, you can't wait to hear how things are going.
4.) Wake up calls from across the country become a thing...
There's a fair chance they woke you up in the mornings at school if you were suddenly hit with a case of the cozy's in bed and now is no different.
5.) They'll call you just to recommend a new song that they found that you just have to hear...
"I know you love "Closer" by the Chainsmokers, but JUST WAIT until you hear this mashup!"
6.) And if something big happens, they're some of the first people to know....
YOU HAVE A DATE?!?! What does he look like? How did you meet? How tall is he? What're the names of his parents? What's his favorite food? Does he like bears???
7.) If you're lucky, you just might be able to take a trip to visit them...
Seeing them in their natural habitat is sure to be a blast no matter where they live!
8.) All your inside jokes will always still be relevant...
And there's a good chance that it will make you laugh so hard, you'll fall over!
9.) But most of all, you'll always be there for one another...
In good times and in bad, these are your friends who are like family, and you know they'll always help support you!
10.) And soon it'll be the start of another semester!
Let the goofiness commence!!!!
