Being a realist is a blessing, but sometimes it can also be a curse. So, if you’re the realist in your friend group, then there may be a few things that you know all too well.
1. Your friends tend to think that you’re negative.
Sometimes telling it like it is can leave some thinking that you’re a negative person, which isn’t true. It’s not your fault you see things for how they are, which isn't always going to be positive.
2. “Ugh, you’re so mean!”
Your realistic opinion can come across as being mean when you’re really just being honest.
3. You tend to be the mediator.
If there’s a conflict, you’re normally the one your friends go to because you can rationally settle any differences.
4. You’re the advice-giver.
Even though your friends can think you’re mean sometimes with your tough love, they still come to you for advice because they know you’ll be totally honest. Even if it hurts.
5. You’re the easygoing one.
Since you tend to understand life and that things happen, you normally take things as they come, which also makes you worry less.
6. You’re accountable.
Not that your other friends aren’t, but if you’re out shopping and Jessica tells Sarah those ugly shoes are cute, you’re there to tell Sarah that they’re actually disgusting.
7. You’re good at avoiding drama.
Drama involves people speaking and acting irrationally, and that tends to tick you off. So you’re a total pro at keeping your friends out of trouble.
8. You always have to fight the urge to say “I told you so.”
Sometimes your friends will ignore your advice, and when they come back to tell you that they should’ve listened to you, it’s hard not to say those 4 satisfying words.
9. You even everything out.
You’re the perfect in-between for optimistic and pessimistic people. You can keep the positivity grounded, but you can also shed a little light on the negativity in life.
10. At the end of the day, your friends appreciate you.
Sure, sometimes your blunt honesty might come across as mean, and you might come across as pessimistic, but your friends know that you’re accountable and always there for them.
Sometimes being a realist is a struggle at times, but just remember that you’re the perfect balance!
