10 Things Only SAU Students Will Understand

10. The Bell Tower

Whether its running to class when you hear the bell tower start to ring because you know you have one minute, or the Christmas carols sounding like one big nasty blah because the bells keep ringing after they play their note, or it looking like a giant crayon(the rated G version of what it looks like) with the Christmas lights on it. You and the bell tower have a love-hate relationship, but you know its what signifies and unifies our campus.

9.Snow Days

Though they don't happen often because we are in the South, snow days are the best. Whether you are having a giant snowball fight on the football field or sledding around the Village behind some AGR boys pickup truck, you know there is something to do on campus during snow days.

8. Soulfood Wednesday

This is the only day you will eat in the cafe's main line and enjoy it. Fried chicken, greens, mashed potatoes and hot water cornbread. This is the one day you don't use your meal plan to get a burger from Grille Works.

7. Bruce Center

Speaking of Grille Works, Bruce.... The place where you spend all you DB in the first two weeks of the semester. You eat your heart out at Chick-fil-a and Subway until the precious DB is gone. Then you are stuck getting a #1 or a #4 from Grille Works.

6. Dorm AC

Well you know the rule: 3 consecutive cold days the heater gets turned on. It gets turned on and it never fails we will have summer during November and the AC doesn't get turned back on till right before we leave in May. We live in Arkansas, we have every season in one day.

5. The Duck Pond

The Duck Pond has many different meanings to different students. If you're in band it's the cell phone graveyard. But, it's mostly where you can go eat your meal, look at the pretty scenery and get attacked by the evil red headed ducks, and their family just keeps growing every year.

4. SAU Wi-Fi

This Wi-Fi is the only one that you can be on one side of a room and have Wi-Fi and then move to the other side of the room and lose it completely. Oh yeah, and not to mention some buildings just don't have it (Brinson and Cross).

3. Mall Area

The Mall Area is the only place where you will hear hip hop music one day, country the next, hear the Homecoming HeartBeat, smash a car, pet puppies from CCAPS, watch the Greeks get competitive during Greek Week, ride fair style rides and slide down water slide and inflatable during Spring Fling, and watch D9 probates. Needless to say the Mall Area is the center of social life on campus.

2. Spring Concert

This is the day that you can see a famous or used to be famous singer. It follows the AGR Crawfish Broil and it changes every year. No matter how you feel about the performer you can always have a good time and if you don't that's your own fault.

1. It's a Family

No matter what you do on SAU campus, no matter if your Greek, Non-Greek, no matter the major you are doing, or the extracurricular you do, SAU is a big family and we come together as a family to mourn, celebrate, and love each other no matter what.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
