As many of us move off campus, these thoughts run through our heads.
1.
I
miss my meal plan.
Now that you’re off campus you won’t need a
meal plan. So say goodbye to the all you can eat buffet of glory at Harris or
the amazing options to choose from at the Armstrong Student Center. If you are
one of those people who feel that on-campus dining is the best for them, it
still is an option but sans the on-campus discount.
2.
Oh,
now I have to clean?
Bummer, you no longer have the luxury of
the cleaning staff who tidy the bathrooms, take out the trash, and vacuum the
hallways. Time to get down and dirty with some rubber gloves or maybe just a
Swiffer.
3.
Finally,
a kitchen!
At last you can cook and bake anything that
your heart desires! So grab your pals and start up Taco Tuesday. Or hey, maybe
try to be neighborly and bake those cute boys next door a batch of homemade
chocolate chip cookies.
4.
Shoot,
my walk to class is WAAAY further now…
This is true, BUT hey that means you’re
burning more cals! Therefore, go ahead and eat TWO slices of Bruno’s on your
drunken Thursday night walk home from the bars.
5. …But
I’m so much closer to Uptown!
As much as you’re going miss making
that hike up and down slant walk…oh wait, no you’re not. We all know that the
best part of living off campus is the fact that we are only a few short minutes
away from the bars and restaurants. This convenient location can be considered
a blessing and a curse; for example, “I’m too lazy to cook anything, lets just
walk to B Dubs,” said by you and your housemates every night.
6.
Paying
for utilities is annoying.
Welcome to the real world and all the
expenses that comes along with it! From gas to cable to electricity, it can all
add up pretty quick. Maybe some of you get the luxury of handing over your
monthly bills to your parents, but if not, then maybe think about starting a job
search.
7.
Living
with my best friends is AWESOME.
You realize quickly that it is pure joy living
with your besties 24/7. You all are about to make amazing memories together! So
cherish every moment, the good and the bad. Make roomie time a priority,
whether it be wine & movie nights or “family” dinners, be sure to spend
plenty of time with your housemates!
8.
Living
with my best friends is distracting me from my studies.
Hopefully you realize that its important to
keep up with your studies, therefore you may want to get in the routine of
staying out of your house and head to the library to get your work done. Your
best friend running into your room every half hour to rant to you about her
ex-boyfriend isn’t exactly an ideal study condition.
9.
I
can’t believe I’m old enough to live in my own house/apartment!
Look how far you’ve come from freshman
year! You’re a real live grown-up; be proud. Just remember what Uncle Ben said in Spider-Man, “With great
power comes great responsibility.”
10. I feel like I shouldn’t be old enough to live in my own house/apartment.
Woah, hold the phone. It’s a little bit crazy thinking that you’re old enough to live in your own place. Mom and dad aren’t going to be there to make everything okay when things go south. But, don’t panic! You’re going to make it out alive.
