Summer has always been my favorite time of the year, and I can't help but remember all of the great times I had as a kid during the summer. Things were so much simpler back then, and summertime was the best time of my life while I was growing up. The following are 10 things that we probably all did as kids during the summer.

1. We ran through sprinklers

If we were too lazy to go to the pool, or if our moms wouldn't let us, it was likely that we ran through the sprinkler for a few minutes (or even hours). I have no idea why we all thought this was so fun, but hey-- it kept us out of the house.

2. We watched hours of Nickelodeon

This was the perk to being on summer break. With no school in session, it was the perfect opportunity to catch up on all of our favorite cartoons. Who needed brain cells anyway?

3. Some of us went to day camp

With all of the social aspects of school, but none of the work, we loved getting away from our house and meeting new kids. Day camp was fun because we got free snacks, and got to play all day long.

4. We got to join groups, such as swim team

I have so many memories from my swim team while growing up. We got to play games, swim out hearts out, plus we got really cool blue ribbons that we thought were worth the world.

5. We had so many sleepovers with our friends

There wasn't much sleeping taking place at these, due to the fact that there were sugary snacks involved and way too many sleepover games, but they were still so much fun. Sleepovers were the best because we knew we didn't have to wake up early for anything, especially school.

6. We got to go to at least one overnight camp

Whether it was staying in tents or bunk beds in a cabin, we loved the outdoors. We probably were less afraid of the unknown then than we are now. We sang around campfires, did trust falls, and made lifetime friends at summer camp.

7. We had water balloon fights

Even though it was a pain to pick up all of those little pieces of a broken water balloon, it was worth it when we got to throw water balloons at our friends.

8. We got to go to waterparks

Whether it was a huge water park or one of those little water parks where water just squirts out of the ground, we were just happy to be free and roam around while cooling off as well.

9. You attempted (or succeeded) in catching fireflies

Even though I have never achieved in doing this as a kid, I always wanted to. Summer nights relaxing on the back porch with family was always my favorite time while growing up.

10. You played with sidewalk chalk

You might not have been as cool as the kids from "Chalk Zone," but you still tried. You loved drawing all over your driveway until it rained the next day so you could start all over again.

Summer growing up was fun, and although now all we might have are summer jobs, summer school, or internships, it is still fun to reflect back on our memories as a child.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
