Summer is here and with it comes some free time for you to spend with family and friends. If you're ever in New York City for the summer, here are ten fun things you can do with little or no money!
1. Go to a park
Central Park, Bryant Park, Prospect Park, and Sunset Park are just a few of the parks that New York City has to offer. Many parks have pop-up shops that sell a variety of foods, and are fun to walk around in. If you're into running or biking, you can do that too! Most parks also have musicians that perform there, as well as space for you to lay down and read a book.
2. Go to Museums
New York City is famous for it's museums. The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the New Museum are some options for you. Many of these museums also offer discounts for college students, and what better way to spend an afternoon than in a museum looking at pieces of art that range from the Ancient Egyptian era to the history of baseball?
3. Baseball Games
What better way to celebrate summer than to watch a baseball game? Break out your baseball caps and head over to Citi Field to cheer on the Mets or Yankee Stadium to cheer on the Yankees!
4. Coney Island
Speaking of baseball, Coney Island is a great stop for some summer fun. You can watch a Cyclones game, go to the boardwalk, ride the roller coaster as well as other rides, and definitely have a Nathan's hotdog while you're there!
5. The Zoo
The zoo is always a fun place to go, and if you're a child at heart, you'll enjoy going to either the Central Park Zoo or the Bronx Zoo. They have some pretty cool exhibits as well as a petting zoo!
6. Concerts in the Park
Summer nights at the park, listening to classical music or other musicians, are always fun. Most of the concerts are also free, which is a plus! Pack a picnic dinner and head over to one of the many parks that offer free entertainment!
7. Sightsee
New York City is full of famous buildings and landmarks, such as the Statue of Liberty, the Flatiron building and the Brooklyn Bridge. You can take a few days to go explore around the city and discover it's rich history.
8. Flea Markets
If you're into antiques then a flea market is a must for you! There are tons of flea markets in New York City, and it's surprising what you can find there. There is jewelry, old photographs, furniture, and even old vinyl records for sale at usually low prices.
9. Farmer's Markets
Farmer's Markets are also a fun place to go to. You can find fresh fruits and vegetables, cooked food, homemade goods, flowers and much more.
10. Have a picnic
Pack a picnic lunch and pick a nice quiet spot at the park to sit down and eat and people watch.
