With finals right around the corner, we all know there are going to be many procrastinators that wait until the night before the exam to start studying. This is when the mental preparation for a an all-nighter occurs. Here are 10 things you will need in order to survive the dreadful all-nighter.
1. A Game Plan
Go into this all-nighter with a positive mindset and somewhat rested in order for you to stay up the amount of time you need to. Be prepared with your books, paper, pens, and pencils. This way you will have no excuse to leave early because 'your pen ran out of ink.' No excuses!
2. A Good Work Area
Do not sit by a bunch of rowdy kids that have already had too much caffeine and are just chit-chatting instead of studying. Go in a quiet little hole of the library or place where you can study with a hard desk and upright chair. No bed studying or you will slowly doze off.
3. Coffee
You will need coffee and lots of it. Even if you do not drink coffee, get one with an extra shot of espresso. It will keep you awake and focused on what you need to get done.
4. Energy Drinks
Along with coffee, you might want an energy drink as well. These tend to make you crash after a while so these are when desperate measures need to be taken to stay awake.
5. An App that Locks Social Media
There are multiple apps you can download for free that will let you set a specific amount of time to lock all of your social media. DO IT! Social media is the most common distraction while studying, but this app will not let you into your profile until the time you set is up.
6. Food and Water
Bring nutritious snacks that will keep you energized and not feel uncomfortably full. Water is also key. Stay hydrated so you do not get sick.
7. Vitamins
Take your Vitamin C. You will not regret it the next day when you feel like a zombie and the possible signs of getting sick. Emergen-C is always a good call.
8. Eyedrops
I know this may sound odd to bring to an all-nighter, but it helps. After staring at your computer or books for so long, your eyes can and will dry out and burn with every blink due to lack of sleep. Eyedrops will replenish those sleepy eyes and help you see straight again.
9. Alarm(s)
Set an alarm so you do not miss the exam you pulled this all-nighter for. That would be very depressing if you slept through the test after all your hard work.
10. Sleep
This may sound contradictory to an all-nighter but if you get finished with your studying earlier than a 1/2 hour before you have to wake up, SLEEP! Even a 30 minute nap can really help you feel a little bit revived after being awake for so long. But do not forget #9 if you decide to take a cat nap.
